Prom makeup tutorial with Kandee Johnson

Hello ya Gorgeous Gal!
First things first, I'm so sorry for not doing my own 2014 Prom look video! I have no real reason or excuse except the extreme schedule of a soul crushing gig-which, I am DONE with. Thank you Jesus.

Now, before I half way gather and get something together that may not be my best because of time and that weird thing my new camera does when it racks focus on its own. (Possessed much?)

I think the best thing to do to teach and encourage you is to share an amazing video, made with many affordable drug store cosmetics as well as a few department store brands, is to share this prom style video from Kandee Johnson. Love her and I think you will too once you watch. Enjoy!

2014 Kentucky Derby hat & OOTD

Hello Gorgeous!
Sorry for the late post, normally I am up and at it early. Though this weekend was rough and it has taken some time to recuperate. This weekend there is so much going on. I swear, it feels like that every single week, month, year!

One of the major events going on this coming weekend is the 2014 Kentucky Derby. On Polyvore, I designed a hat for a contest they are running, here is my set below.

And below that, is my pick for the Kentucky Derby winner! How about you, who would you pick to win?

Now let's talk horses and Derby! My pick to win is Intense Holiday.

http://www.kentuckyderby.com/horses/intense-holiday

Pedigree Intense Holiday's sire Harlan's Holiday and broodmare sire Unbridled's Song were both beaten Kentucky Derby favorites in their respective years. Harlan's Holiday was seventh as the 6-1 choice in the 2002 Run for the Roses.

His marquee wins came at 1 1/8 miles, including the Florida Derby and Blue Grass at three and the Donn Handicap as an older horse. Although winless from six tries at 1 1/4 miles, Harlan's Holiday did place in such elite races as the Jockey Club Gold Cup, Dubai World Cup and Hollywood Gold Cup at that classic distance. A successful sire who unfortunately died last November, Harlan's Holiday is responsible for all types of runners.

On the Triple Crown scene, his best son was Denis of Cork, the third-placer in the 2008 Kentucky Derby and runner-up in the Belmont. Harlan's Holiday has also sired Shanghai Bobby, the champion two-year-old male of 2012; top juvenile Into Mischief (a hot young sire himself); speedy sprinter Majesticperfection; turf performer Willcox Inn; synthetic specialist Mendip, who won at up to 1 3/16 miles in Dubai; and current three-year-olds Ami's Holiday and Poker Player.

Intense Holiday is the second registered foal from Intensify, who failed to place from five career starts. Intensify is by top sire Unbridled's Song. The winner of the 1996 Florida Derby and Wood Memorial, he was fifth as the 7-2 favorite in that year's Kentucky Derby in his only 1 1/4-mile attempt. Unbridled's Song was bred to handle the classic distance, however, as a son of 1990 Derby-winning champion Unbridled.

Sadly, Unbridled's Song died last summer, just as three of his sons were coming to prominence. Will Take Charge went on to clinch champion three-year-old honors by taking the Travers and Clark and just missing in the Breeders' Cup Classic, while Graydar and Cross Traffic established themselves as leading older males. Other progeny include Eight Belles, the ill-fated second in the 2008 Derby; Dunkirk, runner-up in the 2009 Belmont Stakes; 2008 champion juvenile colt Midshipman; and Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic heroines Unbridled Elaine (2001) and Unrivaled Belle (2010). Daughters of Unbridled's Song have produced the likes of General Quarters and his half-brother, classy Japanese performer A Shin Top; Australian celebrities Puissance de Lune, Mrs. Onassis and Once Were Wild; and U.S. Grade 1 stars Unbridled Command and The Lumber Guy.

Intensify is a half-sister to millionaire Crafty Shaw, a grand old campaigner who won 15 of 44 career starts. Twice victorious in the Turfway Park Fall Championship, he scored additional Grade 3 wins in the Rebel, Essex and Hanshin Cup. Another half-sibling is multiple stakes queen and Grade 2-placed Her She Kisses. Intensify, Crafty Shaw and Her She Kisses are all out of Her She Shawklit, who was Grade 1-placed at Saratoga.

Her She Shawklit is by yet another beaten Kentucky Derby favorite, Air Forbes Won, seventh in the 1982 running. She is a full sister to Shawklit Won, runner-up in the 1987 Gotham and third in the Wood Memorial, and a half-sister to Grade 3 hero Mr. Shawklit. http://www.kentuckyderby.com/

Are you ready for Melanoma Monday on May 5th?

 Happy Sunday Sweet Gorgeous!
Quick note to let you know that May 5th is more than Cinco de Mayo, it's also Melanoma Monday and a chance to increase your sun cancer awareness! Read below and get ready to improve your skin care protection this summer. After all-it's hot already! Unless you count that weird and wicked storm that just blew through and took the temps from 94 to 46 in a day!

Survey Shows Women Are Not Taking Preventative Steps against Melanoma
In the L'Oreal Paris survey conducted by Kelton, while the majority of American women are aware of melanoma, over half of women give themselves a "C" or lower when grading their healthy sun care habits. Hispanic and African American women, among whom the incidence of melanoma is growing, are even less likely to take steps to protect their skin.
"Sometimes Latinas like myself and other women of color have this false perception that we aren't at risk for skin cancer, when in fact, the rate of melanoma is actually increasing for us and can be more deadly," said actress, philanthropist and L'Oreal Paris spokesperson Eva Longoria. "We all need to wear sunscreen daily, get our skin checked regularly and be aware of the signs."
Some of the key findings from the survey include:
  • Women lack information about melanoma and want to know more
    • 95% percent of American women who have heard of melanoma know that it first affects the skin, but for many, the knowledge stops there.
    • Of those women who know of melanoma, far fewer know that not reapplying sunscreen every two hours (54%) or having freckles or moles (54%) could put someone at a higher risk for the disease.
    • Less than three in ten (28%) American women believe it's possible they could develop melanoma in their lifetimes; this belief is even lower among African-American (7%) and Hispanic (16%) women.
    • While fewer than three in ten (28%) American women who are aware of the disease believe they have a chance of developing it, almost one in four (23%) stress that they would like to know more about it.
  • Women know they should wear sunscreen, but don't
    • Lack of sunscreen use is likely why many American women give themselves failing sun care grades.  A third (33%) of those who think they would earn a C or worse admit they rarely, if ever, wear sunscreen, versus 7 percent of those who would grade themselves better.
    • 21% of US women, 17% of Hispanic women and 37% of African-American women never or rarely wear sunscreen.
    • Almost half (46% of US women, 46% of Hispanic women and 36% of African-American women polled) only wear sunscreen when they know they'll be in the sun for a long time.
    • Less than one in ten (9%) American women wear sunscreen daily and reapply it every few hours.
  • An alarming percentage of American women don't take steps to check their skin for melanoma
    • A minority (30 percent of American women, 15% of Hispanics and 19% African Americans) regularly give themselves skin exams.
    • 86% of US women would NOT recognize a melanoma on themselves.
    • Only 11% of American women regularly see a dermatologist.
    • 88% of US women, 89% of Hispanic women and a shocking 96% of African American women have not had any kind of dialogue with a doctor about melanoma.

Klout: Do you? I do!

Happy Hump Day Gorgeous!
Today, I am chaperoning my son's field trip and I used a Klout Perk to start the day off-with interest and uniqueness. On Klout, I'm http://klout.com/#/Cherelynn  How about you?

So McDonald's partnered with Klout to share some perks to people who may not normally go to the Golden Arches. Like me. I missed the free coffee dates but that was my fault not theirs!

The coffee is truly what intrigued me and brought me to the local McDonalds to use my Arch card with $5.00 preloaded for me to use. I ordered a small sugar free vanilla latte. See it in the photo next to the prior drink stains and straw wrappers.

My son loves sausage so he got the Egg McMuffin with sausage. The total bill for coffee and sandwich was $6.10. The coffee was really good and I was quite surprised. The sandwich, well-no offense, my family eats very clean, so this was a deviation from our normal menu.

Was it bad? No. It was hot, seemed fresh and cooked thoroughly with a soft muffin. It's just not something that we normally eat. We each took a few bites and then switched to our raw bars.

I know that summer vacation is coming, as are family road trips. Well, I can honestly say, that now when I see the Golden Arches, I know I  can get a good coffee and possibly a sandwich. Sometimes when you are on the road in remote areas, those Arches are like a beacon.

Thank you Klout and McDonalds for a meal and a memory! Learn more about McDonald's at www.mcdonalds.com and sign up for Klout at www.klout.com !

State of Infection by Michael J. Frey: get ready for summer reading!

 Hi ya Gorgeous!
We are officially back from our Passover Easter celebration aboard the Queen Mary. Let's just say I'm pooped! We were so busy the entire time exploring every nook and cranny of the boat-who is also known as the Grey Ghost.

I did get a wee bit of downtime on board to do some reading. I enjoyed this book about zombies from author Michael J. Frey, State of Infection.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil-a fragrance? Super Bowl scent?

 Hi ya Gorgeous!
It's Hump Day! Woot woot! So I have been super busy and I'm a bit back logged in my blogging. So sorry. I apologize. I have all these products with yellow sticky notes on them with their story lines and dates to post ready...just...have .... to write them!

So as I am also getting ready for holiday travel and a new gig and my son has his own busy schedule, rather than do some quickie job on a product review or event I need to post on, I decided to share this.

The World Cup soccer match, that lasts an entire month, has it's own set of fragrances.

Hmm. Interesting. I'm going to see about getting a sample to experience it. But this has just sparked my curiosity.

Does the Super Bowl have a fragrance? Master's Cup have a scent? Is there a perfume for the All Star's games?  Maybe there should be.

Tell me, would you buy it? Try it? What would you like it to smell like? Comment please and let me know!

Boston Marathon and Shalane Flanagan

 Hello Gorgeous,
Today is the anniversary of the 2014 Boston Marathon. There are remembrance runs scheduled in Phoenix and a moment of silence service in Boston to honor those who died and were injured in the terrorist attack.

As a runner I am deeply saddened by the attack. The Boston Marathon is one of the toughest marathon courses to run.

The good news out of this tragedy, is that it did not weaken the city or people involved, it strengthened.  It fortified the resolve of the runners, Boston, and the nation.

Now April 21st, 2014 Shalane Flanagan will be running, and my prayers, winning the Boston Marathon.

Please join me in praying for Shalane's strength in body, spirit and mind! Let's lift her up in love and prayer for her to win the Boston Marathon. Not just for herself, but for Boston, and for the United States.

Now, if I were running (wish!) Boston, these are the few items I would need...

Final Juice Plus Conference in Phoenix notes!

Hello Gorgeous!
I am a bit rested now-getting ready for church. Here's a wee recap and share from the Phoenix conference for Juice Plus.

Last night, I stayed in and the rest of the crew went out to the Chase Field for an Arizona Diamondbacks vs Los Angeles Dodgers game!  I so wanted to go! I was so tired and I had so much to do to get ready for my next event that it made good business sense to stay in. Though my party bone was itchin'!

Here's my well laid out table after the long and fun weekend. Everything seems to be everywhere!
I must admit, the stars of the show were UNITE Expanda Dust, OC8 mattifier and Laura Mercier Brownberry gloss.

It always surprises me what people say they like!

Ok, my makeup kit is packed and it's time to take down the lights. That is, after one quick creepy selfie styled in old Hollywood horror movie lighting!

Now, this week it is a time of rest and fun as my family gets ready to celebrate Passover and Easter. We have so many fun family events planned! I'll post pics as we travel.

As for now, I pray you and your family are enjoying some sweet time together!

Coachella beauty tip with Charlotte Tilbury

Hello Gorgeous-
I just got back from the Phoenix conference. More on that later. For now enjoy these Coachella beauty tips from Charlotte Tilbury!

Coachella is the ultimate cool, bohemian festival that often informs beauty trends and fashion styles for the season. The desert setting means dewy, creamy textures work well, rather than powder-based products which can slip off in the heat. These tips from Charlotte will keep you looking gorgeous from Coachella to Governor’s Ball and everywhere in between:

·                  Coachella is all about fringed crop-tops, and leg-baring denim cut-offs; so make like Gisele and use a moisturizing, gleam-getting, gorgeous illuminator cream to highlight your arms, legs, and décolletage. For the face, mix a high SPF with a light-reflecting illuminator like Tom Ford’s Summer Skin Illuminator for glowing protection. Build up the sheen on temples, cheeks and nose to mimic where the sun would light up the face.
·                  Create a seductive smoky eye in seconds with a crème eye shadow pen – you can keep it in your shoulder bag. Sweep over the eyelids, smudging outwards and upwards with your finger to create a winged look. For added summer sexiness, smudge underneath the lower lash line too.
·                  Add a pop of color to bronzed, freckled skin by using a striking stain on the lips – experiment with eye-catching coral, berry and plum tones of Becca’s Beach Tint. Cheat a smattering of freckles by painting them in using a soft, taupe eyeliner.
·                  Lipstick is your best friend. Vamp up your ethereal maxi-dress with a crimson pout and blend a little color onto the apples of the cheeks for an effortlessly pretty, dewy glow.
·                  Keep a little stash of pointed Q-tips, some face-wipes (festival is the only acceptable occasion to use these!) and a mini pot of moisturizer in your emergency kit. A Q-tip can help fix a poised feline flick on even the wildest of dance floors.

Coachella and Juice Plus : the weekend

Hello Gorgeous,
Well, let's just round out the Juice Plus conference in Phoenix as I transfer to Coachella.

Let's just say: makeup is amazing and transferrable!

So here I am hanging on to the goodness at the Phoenix Juice Plus conference
John Frieda hair irons abound! Why? Because they are so good and so effective and so affordable!
I've got my Juice Plus men speakers covered with the basics: I take the shine off their nose and put it on their hair thanks to OC8 mattifier and Osmotics skincare with Acai shine spray by Brazillian Blowout.

Now for my Juice Plux ladies, I use YBF primer on top of beautyADDICTS creme to powder foundation with cheeks by Benefit and lips by itCosmetics. The lashes are courtesy of Sonia Kushak!

What's the snack bar you say? It's the new Complete by Juice Plus. It has great texture, low calories, whole foods and all delicious. Need some? Ask your  JP rep!

As for me, I'm enjoying the view from my room of the BOB, which by the way in Phoenix is now called the Chase Field. There  was a gig game between the Dbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers-genes, sure, but I am more interested in rest!

So what does all of this have to do with the Coachella weekend? Well, back in the day I attended the first Coachella Music Festival and now that I am invited out to cover this weekend for beauty and brands, I have the option of attending on Sunday.

I will let you know how that turns out...

NAB: last day for me and some memories

Hi ya Gorgeous,
NAB 2014 in Las Vegas has been beyond amazing. I have learned so much and even got a trip down memory lane!

A while ago, the LVH was the Las Vegas Hilton and now it is the Las Vegas Hotel.

Not sure what happened there but what I do know is that at one point during a CES event I and some friends had gone to the LVH to see the Star Trek Experience because we are major trekkies!

The Star Trek Enterprise and the Klingon warbird are gone, but many of the original set design pieces of the Star Trek Experience are still there much to my delight!

And to think I found this by accident on my way to the Monorail. I was finishing an NAB session in the LVH (no longer the Las Vegas Hilton, now the Las Vegas Hotel) and I had ten minutes to get to the South Hall of the Las Vegas convention center. Sure, it's barely a mile-but, it's a mile of booths, people, gawkers, stragglers, lookieloos and then some!

I was in a hurry to make the Camp Takota panel and paused a bit too long to take too many photos of the old Star Trek Experience. Which is now a hispaniola Univision type bar in the LVH.
I don't know what that is like, but I do know what it is like to step back in time to a treasured memory.

Sort of like that time that Ms. Rener and I were on set at Universal and taking pics in the original set of the Bates Motel movie. Good times my friend. Good times!

So here I am at the Star Trek Experience bar which was slightly skewed towards the New Generation fans and you would expect Whoopi Goldberg in her character Guilan to come and offer me a Romulan Ale!

To know avail. (pun intended) Here I am being "beamed" up-or maybe, being affected by the time warp continuum?

Finally, I go back to the front to take yet one last photo before deciding to NOT to take the Monorail because it does not have a time schedule. Meaning, I am not balking at the $12 day rate, I'm merely concerned that I am going to buy the ticket and then be late for my Camp Takota session when I could have easily walked. Sweaty?

Sure. It was 98 degrees in Vegas today. For all ya'll who do not know the southwest, it is way too early to be this hot! I know many have endured the worst winter ever, but for me in the West, I am concerned that I am about to pay for the cooling bill of the worst summer ever!

I finished a great and productive, very entertaining, wildly connective NAB show only to get home to being spoiled by my family with a taco dinner and a fat jug o' wine to go with a copy of Smaug.

Oh, the full name is The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Otherwise known as part 2 of the series which wraps with a final edition, part 3 being...wait for it..no,really-wait for it. The premiere date has been moved from my Mom's birthday of July 18th, 2014 to...San Diego Comic Con 2015.

That's an ouch and it's good I have this big bottle of wine to help me!

Now, I am leaving for Phoenix for my most favorite client ever, Juice Plus. Wow. These people are awesome as a company and I love, love, love doing makeup for them!

Here is the press release for The Hobbit Part 3: There And Back Again, affectionately known as TABA.

###

The official press release follows:

“The Hobbit: There and Back Again” to be released July 29, 2015 and will premiere at Comic-Con International

Burbank CA, April 1, 2014 — “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” the final film in Peter Jackson’s epic adaptation of the timeless classic The Hobbit, will now be released on Wednesday, July 29, 2015. This move is not related to any kind of production delay. Instead, it stems from Peter Jackson’s desire to debut the film in San Diego during Comic-Con International. The joint announcement was made by Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Fellman stated, “When Peter Jackson approached us with the idea of hosting the largest-ever World Premiere for a film, we were excited at the prospect. Comic-Con International in San Diego is the perfect venue for a film franchise like “The Hobbit” and a fitting conclusion to this wonderful Trilogy. And although the film moves from its traditional holiday slot, it now sets itself up as a true Summer blockbuster.”

Jackson stated, “The worldwide support and passion of the fans been such an enormous part of the enduring success of these films. Once we started thinking about the right way to bring our Middle-earth journey to a close, we realized that it was only fitting to throw a party we could share with the folks who have been with us all the way — the fans. I’m delighted that New Line, MGM and Warner Bros. are equally enthusiastic about involving fans in what will be an amazing fan celebration of Middle-earth.”

“The Hobbit: There and Back Again” will premiere at Petco Park on the Sunday of the Comic-Con convention as the climax of a Middle-earth-themed carnival lasting the entire week of the convention. There will be music, food, artisans and artists, children’s activities and games of skill for everyone, not just Comic-Con attendees. Tickets for the Sunday world-premiere will be able to be won during carnival, as well as via contests that Warner Bros.’ partners will host in the months leading up to the event.

Added Kwan Vandenberg, “We realized we miscalculated the fan reaction to the Los Angeles Premiere of “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” and were delighted when Peter approached us with this exciting idea. San Diego, Comic-Con International, the Gaslamp Quarter and Petco Park are the perfect places to bring Middle-earth to life and we are confident the fans will wholeheartedly embrace this farewell.”

NAB 2013 in Las Vegas-so much to see...

Hello Gorgeous!
Quick recap from yesterday's very full NAB 2014 in Las Vegas. Wow. Technology has come along way baby when it comes to film!

Look at what's new at BlackMagic and will be ready for retail this summer...yep, that's a scanner and cleaner that converts to digital.
Now I'm at AJA and this is a super light, durable, ergonomic camera-it's awesome!
Holy smokes-this is one of my favorite things that I saw at the show. It's a real time dailies machine that is liquid cooled and portable, and keeps what's happening on set and what's happening in post tied together.
The demo was great and I can not get over the size of it!
Ah, it's unseasonably hot. It's too early to be this hot in Vegas! Even though I am already sweaty from the hot convention center, I have made it outside to see the Patriots Jet Team. The only civilian owned six aircraft aerobatic jet team in the United States.
The Patriots Jet Team pilots are former members of elite military teams. All except the one in the jet in this photo! It was so awesome!
Speaking of awesome, here is what is not. I'm tired! I sat down for a moment to rest my boots and reconfigure my afternoon schedule. That's when I noticed this sign. By the way, myself and 50 other people were all sitting on the stairs!
Now I am inside the Lennon Bus which is a traveling sound stage and recording studio dedicated to the passionate pursuit of music a 'la John Lennon. This was nice.
The bus is on tour and can be scheduled for an event if you are interested, so check 'em out!

This by the way, is super cool and I want one to visit my next event! See the movie theater? Great screen, great sound, comfy seat and super air conditioned. Guess what?
It is all inside the truck! It's a semi-truck rolling theater! I love it!
Time for me to go back inside for a super session that I was really interested: The New Frontier-cross platform content-where broadcast meets online. AOL, Conde Nast, You Tube, Mashable and the tv show Right Now were on the panel and had some great insights but no true answer as to when the online market is going to be financially viable for all involved.
Day is over! I'm so tired. Though the day was so good. I'm looking forward to what's next at NAB.
I'm also curious to see how people look because as I was leaving the convention center floor, there were the Twitter pop up bars and parties everywhere!

Ok NAB, ready set go for the next adventure!
