Hello Gorgeous,
The lifestyle side of the blog is showing! I was treated to an early Christmas gift today: a gift certificate to Exotics Racing in North Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Now, a review for you!
When you arrive, there is a big parking lot and lots of space to park. It was clean and full of all makes and models of cars. I was giggling on the drive up thinking that I would be pulling my mom van in between race cars and sports cars, but not so. Many a plain 'ol Toyota and Honda was in the lot. Though, true-I was the only mom van. Yes, that's me wearing the 2014 Pantone color trend of the year Orchid, even though it's still 2013. What can I say, I like purple!
A reservation is recommended, but if you don't have one, no worries, there will still be cars to drive though you may not get your first choice. A full list of the cars is available on the website for Exotics Racing. I had a tough time picking. I wanted the McLaren though it was not available. I have a Bond fantasy, so I was thinking of the Aston Martin but made a reservation for the Ferrari F430-F1.
When I arrived for my reservation I saw this green beauty and switched from the Ferrari to the Lamborghini Gallardo. The Exotics Racing staff were friendly and obliging. I arrived a wee bit early so I wound have time to take photos. You are free to roam about the cars, take as many pictures with them and in them. You can sit in every one and I took advantage of that except for the Porsche. I'm just not a big Porsche fan. They are too small a car for my preference!
The entire Exotics Racing experience starts with a safety briefing in a class room with a professional driver explaining the track, types of turns and braking strategy. From there, you go to the "discovery lap" on the track in a Porsche Cayenne to experience what the track is like. I really liked this part because it let me see what it is I needed to be doing on the track. Now it's time for the Lamborghini Gallardo.
Part of the track safety is to wear a helmet. Before you go to the vehicle of your choice, you don a disposable hair bonnet (lice protection thank you!) to wear under the helmet. I thought there would be a five point harness but it is a standard 3 point in all models on the track.
My professional driver and instructor was Chris H. and he was very patient with all of my questions and concerns. Yes, I was actually passed on the track by a Porsche but that was the least of my concerns. There was so much going on and at 115 miles per hour I figured that I needed to be concentrating on when to brake, listening to Chris, time to floor it, watch the cone and look ahead to the next turn.
I was teasing Chris the instructor before we pulled out on to the track to turn the Sammy Hagar tune "I Can't Drive 55" up to 11. Thankfully, there was no radio because in my few laps, which literally went by in the blink of an eye I needed to be concentrating on Chris's driving instructions, not head banging to a good tune. I had 5 laps and before the track I thought that would be plenty. No, at least 7 would be better, and maybe more like 10.
A video is taken of you driving the car and can be purchased for $85.40, it includes all of the professional driver instructions plus a video box inside the video of what you look like driving. I viewed mine and I have my usual grin on. I really enjoyed this experience and can hardly wait to go back and drive again.
This trip I did not do the Corvette hot laps with the track's professional drifter driver, but on a subsequent trip I definitely would and for sure get a set of laps for my Mancub.
Over all, my experience was awesome. I highly recommend Exotic Racing for the car enthusiast and race fan in your life.
