Happy Birthday Makeup University!

Hi ya Gorgeous!

May birthday month continues with today being a celebration of the Makeup University blog being 10 years old today.

Yes.
Ten years old.
Some blogs don't even make it ten days, ten months, let alone ten years. Though here we are.

As excited as I am to celebrate 10 years writing in Makeup University, there is a change coming to the blog.

My summer schedule has me traveling more and on different projects which won't give me daily blogging capacity.
But!
Makeup University is not going anywhere! Just shifting from daily posts to weekly posts, and a weekly video and guest blogger posts and my favorite, more live events where we can be together for a day to learn beauty, teach makeup, and a few other fun topics too.

Thank you so much for your support over the past decade. It means so much to me!

Superbowl Sunday: the recap, review and intro video for you

Hi ya Gorgeous,
So today is Superbowl Sunday. For those who watch football, it's a big deal. For those of us who like the commercials and the half time show, it's an ok deal. Nowadays with everything being on Youtube, there isn't a huge need to watch the game in my opinion.

So, instead of having a "football look" or "Superbowl style" video or post, I've got a wee chit chat to do a light review, a simple recap and introduce you to the big deal for the blog coming up next week.

TEEN WEEK!

I've been writing Makeup University for ten years now. Ten. Years. One of my favorite things about the blog that started the second year of it's inception is the focus on encouraging young women at the beginning of the year. Somehow, the beginning of the year became the second month and that's ok by me because I feel like blending a celebration of young women in the month that we celebrate love AND Arizona's birthday is a good fit.

Please enjoy the video and comment your opinion. If you have not subscribed to the Makeup University YouTube channel yet, please do!

How to refresh and spa your skin while traveling in winter weather with Beauteque

Hi ya Gorgeous,
Happy Saturday to you!
So when would now be a good time to take some "me" time and have an at home spa day?

It's the second month of the Gregorian calendar year and if you have not committed to taking better care of yourself this year, then when would NOW be a good time to do so?

Enter, Korean skincare masks from Beautique

I recieved some samples and have been loving them! I want to use one a week, but, have used 3 so far!

These two in the photo above I am saving for my next trip.

I used this and it's by far my favorite! I swear, my skin absorbed all of the good stuff packed into the mask leaving the paper dry. My face was hydrated, glowing and moisturized.

I used the lemon "I'm Real|" brightening mask and enjoyed it and the solution on the mask was rapidly absorbed by my skin. Was I bright? I don't know. Could have been the late night or the wine, either way, I really enjoyed the fresh scent, smooth application and rapid absorption of the mask.

And...I'm wearing the aloe vera mask now. I love aloe vera for it's healing and nurturing properties.

So. These Beauteque masks are amazing, affordable and easy to access. Why not try some today?

P.S. These are perfect gifts for sisters and mothers, men who like skincare and others on Valentine's Day....so get some and give some!

How to use a derma roller at home

Hi ya Gorgeous!
I love a beauty tool and at home spa helper and I have begun to do an at home "derma rolling" treatment to the damaged skin on my chest.

This skin has seen decades of sun and the majority of that was without sunscreen so I have deep scarring and wrinkles with a red look that is permanent from sun damage.

I've been having my doctor check the area yearly for any signs of cancer but there are none.

I've also talked with dermatologists and plastic surgeons about solutions to smooth the skin and there does not seem to be any non-invasive or dangerous 50/50 choices that may or may not work and could possibly make the skin worse and more damaged.

So I got a simple derma roller, watched a lot of "how to" videos on YouTube and now I'm on a 30 day challenge  (1 full cycle of treatment) to see the effect.

I'm using a .05 derma roller. I sterilize it in 91% alcohol for an hour before I use, and an hour after I use. I roll the derma roller on a piece of alcohol soaked paper towel after treatment to remove any funky chunks that may be too small to see but clinging on.

My main goal is to help stimulate the collagen growth of the skin in the deepest ravines of the chest area in my permanent red sunburned area.

My second goal is to not give myself an infection from my at home spa treatment.

So I'm on my 3rd treatment. I had planned to do a derma rolling session once every seven days, though I am too impatient for that.

Instead, I have been doing it once every 4 days.
Yes, it's a bit prickly. A touch sting. A slight bit of pain, but it's not bad. In fact, it feels more itchy than anything else.
I prep the chest area skin with a wipe of 91% alcohol first. Then derma roll for about a minute in an up down motion, sideways motion, and diagonal criss cross pattern.

I do not have bleeding of any sort, just redness. Then I apply my Sente Dermal Repair Creme to the treated area afterwards. I do not put anything on the skin and wear an open collared area shirt for at least 3 hours to let the area breathe and heal.

I have not had any infection or scabbing or adverse effects or results.

So far, I'm liking what's going on but have not seen any "noticeable" results. Yet! I will update this post at the end of the 30 days!

How about you? What at home spa treatments do you do? Do you use a derma roller too?

How to navigate the road to the award shows with Murad skincare

 Hi ya Gorgeous!
So did you watch the Golden Globes last night? Or maybe the People's Choice awards last week? Guess what, if that wasn't award show enough for you, the Oscars are coming.

I watched a little bit of last night's show but to me it seemed a little bit slow and a bit boring. I was surprised at how many of the celebrities cussed on stage and had to be bleep censored out.

I liked seeing Sylvester Stallone win and Lady Gaga because her beauty game was on fleek last night! Such classic glamour, it was refreshing to see. Tomorrow I have a video on a "how to"get her look.

If you are wondering how the celebrities stay camera ready, it's skincare and nutrition.

So let's take a loot at how Murad can get your skin to look like a celebrity and be red carpet ready for the Oscars!

Happy Monday! So it's time to return back to life, back'ish to normal and start the "work" version of 2016.

While I was gone some fun blog samples arrived-like this light up lip gloss and nail polish from LIT NYC available at CVS.

It's interesting. A bit gimmicky. But interesting. I'm getting ready for the CES show (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas now. I think I will pack this with me just in case!

Here's a short video demonstrating the product. Enjoy.

How to use the Acne Free Sonic Advanced Cleansing Duo to remove long wearing foundations

Hi ya Gorgeous!

How is your new year treating you so far? Mine? It's going by as fast as ever and it's only the third day!

So there is a lot of events, and travel and hullabaloo coming up in the next few months and I'm ready for it with my face primers, long wearing foundations, setting powder and finishing sprays.

BUT!
You know what all of that means? That my makeup removing skincare routine needs to up it's ante, right now!

So here's a lil ditty on how to use the Acne Free Sonic Advanced Cleansing Duo to remove long wearing  foundations and a look that was meant to look fresh and last all day but now needs to be completely removed to let the skin breathe and regenerate over night.

This is what I do:

I tend to wash my face twice: first with an oil or a purifying cleanser to deeply clean and remove all of the product. I wet my face, massage a small amount of the cleanser into my skin, and then wet the AcneFree Purifying Facial Cleansing Brush  which is more of a silicone nubby wash pad- and then use it to massage my face with the cleanser on it.

Rinse well.

Follow up with my moisturizing or hydrating cleanser for a deep clean that removes all traces of makeup!

For me, it's working great. For those of you who may have full blown acne, this may be a great tool to help clear up skin. For the rest of us who get an occassional breakout but use long wearing products, this is an excellent resource for keeping the skin clean and healthy!

You can find this at mass retailers nationwide!

ADVANCED CLEANSING BRUSH DIRECTIONS

  • Use once a day.  Dampen skin, rinse brush head and pat dry to remove excess water before attaching to brush unit.
  • Apply any AcneFree cleanser to the brush head, spreading a dime size amount evenly over brush surface; this will avoid product from splattering on to clothing while brush is in motion.  (Cleansers with Benzoyl Peroxide may bleach clothing/towels.)
  • Gently massage over face for approximately 60 seconds, concentrating on troubled areas.  Avoid the eye and mouth areas.  Be careful not to press too hard; this will limit the motion of the brush and reduce its effectiveness.
  • Rinse face, remove brush head and rinse thoroughly.
