A Day in Vegas with The Female Quotient

Hi ya Gorgeous,

This week has been epic and eventful and on a whim I had a last minute opportunity to visit with The Female Quotient lounge in Las Vegas at the OAAA expo via VegasBuzzTV.

Whoa. That's a mouthful.  I first met the FQ at Sundance where they hosted a lovely lounge with great panels around the subject of women in film and the work environment. So good.

I made a day trip to Las Vegas and arrived at the Aria for the conference. It's such a beautiful resort and casino complete with a monorail and luxury shopping center including Hermes and Harry Winston stores.

The Female Quotient lounge had a panel featuring several women speakers on the topic of "the messy middle" - and how to deal with it.

The panel tackled the idea of "perfection" - the myth of balance and having it all while giving practical tips and options for women in the workplace who need help.

When I arrived at the lounge there was a table full of NYX cosmetics and two makeup artists giving makeup touch ups to the ladies. There was chocolate cupcakes, cookies and refreshments. A photographer was taking headshots for use on new business cards

I loved encountering a financial advisor who was there to answer any money questions a gal could have! The event was a good battery recharger and  perfect for a mid year boost to keep working towards the goals I have set ahead.

You can learn more about The Female Quotient by visiting them here:

REsolve Tuesday - Start Something New In the Area of Your Goal

Hi ya Gorgeous!

Happy Tuesday - or - happy Commonwealth day. There seems to be a holiday for any and every day of the year. Which brings me to the topic of today's REsolve Tuesday, the weekly check in for the new year's resolutions made 5 months ago.

In the area of your goal - start something new. If you are working on fitness - do a different exercise program for a couple of weeks.

Try a new food style or recipes for a week!  If you are working on your business, add a new category.

The point is, do something new. Sometimes trying to revive and persevere in the same old thing just doesn't work.

Ya gotta do the new! Try it! Let me know in the comments how it works out!

BCA Beauty Tips - Simple Makeup To Get Glam And Out the Door Fast!

 Hi ya Gorgeous!
TGIF! I'm so ready for the weekend - it's packed - but I'm looking forward to it! Now, October is traditionally the "BCA" - breast cancer awareness month, though, recently I've been helping some gal pals who are ending chemo and one year out of chemo get themselves back into beauty.

Some days they are just too tired to do anything and somedays they have to leave the house and want to look their best without a lot of fuss. So here's a few items to help you get yourself ready when you physically are not feeling that great.

From top to bottom in the photo and left to right :
1.  Consider using a hydrating mask one or twice a week. I really like the MyChelle hyaluronic mask because it's cruelty free, gentle, has natural ingredients, feels good and works!

2. Get a good cream for your face - a hydrated plump face is a sign of health - so slather on some face creme like the MyChelle hyaluronic creme in a pump.

Chemo treatments  can really dry the skin out - please pick up some hydrating toner, or make your own rosewater and aloe and put into a spray bottle to hydrate your skin first.  I'm using the MyChelle hyaluronic system - but - you use what you love and what works great for you.

3. Time for makeup - from the bottom left of the photo - I swear by a cream bronzer, like this one from Stila. You can apply it mixed into your face cream, or BB creme, or dab on with your fingers to your cheeks, chin and forehead for an added warmth and glow to skin that goes a bit sallow in chemotherapy treatments.

NOTE:  Apply your cream bronzer over your hydrated face - not on a dry face because then it can make splotchy streaks.

4. All of your body hair, everything goes - nose hair, keep tissues for the runny'ness!  Eyebrows and eyelashes go.  I recommend working with two shades of a creme eyeshadow stick, like these from Mally. The creme is gentle on the eyelid, and putting a slightly darker tone along the eyelash line where they fell out can make some definition without being harsh. Then use a lighter hint of shimmer creme on the brow bone and tear duct. Lookin' good girl!

NOTE:  At this point trying to add false lashes can be tricky since there is not a physical lash line for them to rest on - just wait, they will grow back and in the mean time if you don't have time or patience to try and glue them on the edge of your eye lid - just go without!

5. A little bit of concealer under the eyes can go along way with a sallow look from treatment and fatigue, just dab some on and this concealer from IT cosmetics is great for blending and wearing well!

6. I've got in the photo a Pacifica lip gloss in Plushious that can be both lip color and cheek color. Same thing with the Becca Watermelon stain in the photo, it too can be used for lips and cheeks.

7. Finally, see the wee bottles of roll on perfumes? That's Wild Spirit.  They are synthetic  chemical free and small batch created perfumes make with essential oils.  This is a healthy fragrance that is safe and non toxic for a lady in chemotherapy or out.  I think that fragrance is one of the best accessories a woman can wear!

To quote Steel Magnolias:
Clairee: The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.

Amen!

Now ladies, no matter what the diagnosis is - you are strong enough to handle anything that comes your way and look good while doin' it!

L'Oreal Lash Paradise - First Impression Friday!

Hi ya Gorgeous!
TGIF!
Who is ready for Memorial Day weekend? Me!  Nope. Not doing a thing. Going anywhere. Nothin' special. Why?

3 reasons. First, my cub is road trippin' with his grandparents. Second, I'm finalizing the million details for the Jael book release and Finding Chupa production. Third, July has so many trips that I've got to keep some cash set aside!  So it's not even a sacrifice to stay home this weekend and I'm really looking forward to the time to get my ducks in a row!

Now, let's get to the video product review of L'Oreal Lash Paradise.

Ok, I have been on the videos a lot lately since I have time off! Woo hoo! If you are new here, please subscribe - if you are not new, welcome back!

I regularly use L'Oreal Voluminous, the grey tube for mascara. I get it at the Walmart, it's $5.97 but this shiny package had me curious! It's $9.97 at my local store - but, I found it on Amazon for $7.79!

Sandal Season is Here! Ethique Pumice & Peppermint Foot Polish to the Rescue!

Hi ya Gorgeous!

Oh - the weather! The official date of spring has passed on the calendar yet our current weather situation is anything but warm sunny sunshine filled days!

It's all severe rain and snow, wind and in general, a rather blustery day!

Though I encourage you to look ahead to better days that are coming!  In fact, sandal season is upon us!  It's time to take the toes out of the wool socks and boots and get them ready for show in fancy flip flops and open toe sandals!

Meaning, it's time for pedicures and taking extra care of feet, toes and heels.  My heels get a little rough in the winter but more so in the summer from always being in a sandal.

I just received a sample of the Ethique Beauty Pumice & Peppermint Foot Polish bar and it is absolutely lovely!

The packaging and thoughtful wrapping is recycled that is compostable. Ethique is a Certified B Corporation, makes cruelty free and climate friendly products - in short, they just make good stuff!

So you simply rub this deeply scented bar with chunks of shea butter in it and wee bits of pumice. The aroma is from the essential peppermint oil infused into the bar. It's a very light exfoliation, it's not harsh at all.

The box says - not to eat - but to be careful in the tub/shower because the super rich emollient shea butter could leave a film on the shower surface and become slippery.

The product is safe for the whole family and would make a lovely gift for the upcoming Passover and Easter seasons- or get early for Mother's Day and graduation gifts!

Find yours and more from Ethique on their website. They make a wide range of body bars, including, a bar shampoo - which, is perfect for travel, like, to Coachella!

Dang! Dirtybird Energy - what spring break needs!

Hi ya Gorgeous!

Whoa! So much going on this month - it's March and that means March Madness, St. Patrick's Day, spring break, and the month ends with Passover and Easter!  Holy smokes that's a lot of celebrating!

So, my son's school does not do a spring break and it's a bit of a buzz kill. We like to travel and take wee trips to visit family and friends and this whole 'no spring break" stinks!  The trade off is he only goes to school 4 days a week. So there's that.

Now, I just received some samples from Dirtybird Energy, and these soaps are amazing. I'm so glad I got a chance to experience this brand. It's one of my favorite things about doing Makeup University - I get to meet new products that in normal every day makeup work, I may not meet!  My samples came as a 4 pack with one of each scent and formulation that Dirtybird Energy makes.

This soap is so big. It fits my whole hand. Speaking of whole - this soap is for the whole family but the size is definitely man sized!

The bar is a generous 5.5 ounce size (156 g) and retails on the website for $5.99 each or a multi 4 pack sells for $23.50.

I've already tested the Original formulation and like the lather, rinse and clean but not dry feeling on my skin. My son used the bar and likes the chicken foot imprint as well as the "zingy" feel of the soap formulation.

The black plastic case the soap comes in, is reusable, recyclable and the soap is made in the USA.
So this soap is ready to travel on spring break trips, or be used in the locker room during March Madness games and when the soap is all gone, you can store some LEGO in the black tub.

So why the caffeine and how does it make Dirtybird special?  More on that in a paste of info from their website - on me - I did not notice a big difference. But - I'm exhausted from a super hard hike yesterday, I took a benadryl for a weird itchy scalp thing I have going on, and normally, I mainline espresso.  I don't fault the soap for not making me zippy because there was a lot stacked against it.

Final thoughts from me before I paste in the brand info: I really really like these soaps. I'm a soap fan to begin with, so this product had to really impress me to actually get me to say that I like it and I would buy it. Yup. They can take my money.

I think these are perfect gifts- especially for Mother's day - 'cause Moms are tired. Perfect for graduation day because those kids be needing a boost after the graduation celebrations and because I love hand made, USA, good stuff for the body, and I think Dirtybird Energy is it.

Also, if you turn the black tub over and read the ingredients - there's some humor hidden in there and I think that attention to detail means from the start of the soap making process to the finish, there is attention to what matters in this product. Buy some for you and buy some to give - you won't be disappointed.

Now for some brand info:

Why Caffeine?  When caffeine is applied to your soap it has antioxidant properties that is great for your skin and when absorbed it ENERGIZES your skin and body.  The amount of absorption varies from person to person and shower to shower.  The DIRTYBIRD ENERGY bar of soap is a great way to ENERGIZE before your first cup of coffee.
THE CONTAINER:  The soap isn't the only thing that's special. DIRTYBIRD ENERGY soap comes packaged in our patented reusable container, that snaps shut and allows you to take your soap anywhere; the gym, camping, vacation, anywhere.

About the Original:
Give your body the boost to get up and go with DIRTYBIRD Energy Soap. This supercharged body bar helps to deliver some get-up-and-GO to your morning routine and post-workout scrub-down with a burst of CAFFEINE and Peppermint. Can you eat it? NO! But you can finally enjoy every last minute of your daily shower. Formulated with Jojoba beads, this power-packed soap will effectively scrub and smooth away dry, rough skin, preparing your body to best absorb the stimulating, skin-tightening effects of Caffeine while Palm Oil and Coconut Oil deliver an abundance of rich moisturizers to leave your skin feeling comfortable and soft after every use.

March Madness with Soften Her-a review

Hello Gorgeous,
Well, there comes a day in every beauty blogger's life where she is stumped by a product. For me, today is that day.

I have had a sample for a while now that is supposed to soften stubble called Soften Her.

Hmm. I don't have stubble. I am always looking for new products and love testing them!
This is probably something I should have passed on. I am have very little body hair and the body hair I do have is very fine.

So even when I shave my legs, or armpits, the hair that grows back, the stubble-is fine.

I did not feel like I could get a good result on myself to fully demonstrate the product. So I enlisted the help of a guy friend who has thicker hair and obviously, thicker stubble.

He said it pushed and pulled a bit, felt like having his eye brows plucked when I rubbed his five o'clock shadow stubble with the Soften Her.

I don't think I knew how to use the product properly or had the right situation of stubble to let the product shine.

Here is more information on the product from their website and if you have tried it and liked it, let me know in the comments!

What happened

Hello Gorgeous.
Holy smokes.
The new year.
Whoa.
This is the first time in the nine years that I have been writing Makeup University that I have EVER missed a post.
I'm not quite sure what happened but here's a start. The New Year's Eve travel ended with me being sicker than sick. In fact, I just may have invented a new sick with the level of snot that my body made.

Then it was back to school for Mancub. Who encountered the most vile of bully. This bully came back from Fall semester suspension with a fresh can of kid'hole to inflict on the students in the Spring semester.  Not good.

Oh, and I had to travel for a gig. Not just any gig. But a 9 day beast of a gig. I'm glad to be on it, but it's a grind. It's a 14 hours a day for 9 days kind of thing that is part joy and part horror.

Where I was staying on location had very slow internet that when I logged on made every virus bell ding and dong on my laptop.

So in the middle of being sick, Mancub having to fight for his life at school and the gig of all gigs with slow infected online access-I just didn't get my posts written.

*sigh* I'm sorry. I feel like I have let you down. That was not my intention. I just got caught up in life. Like a tidal wave of bad funk life and didn't meet my obligation.

I'm sorry.
Please forgive me.
Going forward with good intentions for this amazing new year!
