F9 - Fast paced - Fun - Family Film!

Last week the latest installment in the Fast and Furious saga was released, simply as, F9.  Last night, my family went to see it in the theater and oh my goodness! It is a fast paced, fun, film that is action packed.

There are 24 instances of profanity but there are not the major F bombs as seen in other PG13 films. There are 2 scenes with alcohol in them though little drinking. There is a scene with some scantily clad young women dancing. 

There is a LOT of big, loud, noisy, a bit non-nonsensical action where things don't quite make sense, but, it's an action film for fun, not philosopy.

When talking about philosophy this film has a heavy focus on family, trust, and friendships. 

Yes, there are some scenes that just don't make sense and yes, if you watch the Fast and Furious saga you will see some dead characters "magically" come back to life.

If you are a mom of boys - this film is for you. It was fun. We were laughing and enjoying the race action scenes. Overall, if you need some entertainment, this is worth the ticket price in my "mother of teenage boy" opinion.

Pickled Eggs! How to Make Homestead Heart's Recipe for Homemade Holiday Gifts!

When would now be a good time to get started on making some beautiful, hand crafted, tasty, home made gifts for the holidays? 

 

 

 Remember, no matter what it looks like in the world, you can choose joy and create meaningful moments and memories for your loved ones! I still think it's going to be the best year ever! 2020 is just coming in slowly to awesomeness.

Recipe: 36 boiled eggs  - 12 per quart jar

Wide mouth glass quart jars 

1 cup apple cider vinegar (for bonus flavor) 

1 cup white vinegar 

1 cup water 

3-4 bay leaves 

1/2 tsp dry mustard powder 

1 tsp turmeric 

1 tsp garlic powder NOT granules 

1/2 tsp salt *do not use iodized salt - use canning or kosher or himalayan 

1 tsp or tablespoon of red pepper flakes - add heat depending on your taste 

FRESH garlic pieces, or jalapeno slices to layer in jar Louisiana red hot sauce - about 1/4 cup per jar to top off brine with. 

 

REMEMBER to do the AIR BUBBLE - if you do not have a fancy tool, just use a butter knife. 

 

Final step - you MUST leave this in the back of the fridge, hidden away from sight for a minimum of TWO WEEKS. The eggs need ample time to pickle and marinate in the sauce and be zesty and delicious! Back to School Online Begins Now - Success Tips for Moms

Good morning and welcome back to school. Online.

Wow. 2020. You are quite the conundrum. As a Mom, I look forward to back to school shopping, and all of the school supplies to prepare for a new year of learning. Truth be told, in general, I just love school supplies!

This year is different. Way different. It is akin to the time we homeschooled yet now there is a different format and check in times and a structure to the "online" world of high school through the public school system.  So far, so good. 

Though this year, there is no new backpack, or lunch bag or clothes! Why spend the money when we are on a permanent "until further notice" for covid guidelines and safety to return to school.


 I saw some tone deaf ads from brands about buying and saving on new back to school gear and I think that's what happens when the marketing department schedules out media buys a year in advance.

Going forward into the 2020 online school year, here are a few tips to help you and your student:

1. Keep a sleep schedule - as if - you were attending school on campus

2. Make a sacred study space - no breaching of the learning space so the student becomes consistent in where learning happens for online school

3.Eliminate distractions and if you have siblings, keep them separated by the dollar store tri fold presentation board

4. Keep a school/study/lunch/break schedule so the student is acclimated to the learning routine and if school campus reopens, the transition will be smooth.  Part of this step is to have the student "dress" for school. No pajamas, put a real shirt on and sit down at the computer like it's a class meeting in person.

5. Have fun with it.  This is not the end of the world. It's like a dress rehearsal for something else and a new way of operating.

Filler’ up Friday - how to add power steering fluid

Happy Friday and happy beginning of the weirdest Memorial Day weekend ever!

 

I'm getting ready for a road trip and naturally, that means to check the fluids and tires on the ol' family truckster.

I've already checked the oil, radiator and reservoir, windshield wiper fluid, transmission fluid and tire pressure. I noticed when giving the engine a look over - looking for anything funky or out of place, perhaps a hose the is about to crack and showing signs of wear? Nope. Not what I found - what I did discover is that the power steering fluid was low.

I love Lucas Oil products. I'm a fan. When I am at the Walmart or auto store, it's what I go for without question. I'm not sponsored or paid to say loving things about the brand, it's just good stuff. It's Wednesday that feels strangely like any other day in quarantine life. So I did receive the stimulus payment. It was the basic $1200 not like the guy who received $8 million on accident!

I paid the necessary bills and got caught up and then took $20 to the Grocery Outlet to stock up on some great $5 wines. Yes, I have cut my per bottle budget in half so I can have more. Until a steady income manifests back into a steady stream, I'm making sacrifices!
