Meet Young Living Savvy Minerals - From Sundance Film Festival to You

Hi ya Gorgeous!
So I've been home from Park city for a few days and I'm finally getting back to the "normal" of my desert life versus the time on the high altitude mountainside charm of Park City Utah.

While I was at Sundance Film Festival, I was invited to The Retreat hosting Creative Coalition & Project Green gifting suite. Thank you Kim and Katie so much for the invitation. I got to meet several brands that I would not normally have met in my day to day life - like The League app, Prairie Organic Spirits, J.C. Jewelers and HOST Galleries with artist Ben Jeffreys.

So wonderful to meet the new brands - and across the way was a pop up shop for Savvy Minerals by Young Living. It was a beautiful shop and there were several stations of lighted mirrors and samples to test then take a selfie at the step and repeat wall.

I met with a wonderful woman who, I think, was named Brittany and she is a Young Living rep. This company primarily sells essential oils though they have launched a cosmetics division to the company.

I was invited to try a lipstick shade and then receive a sample. I tried Adore and it wasn't a fit, then settled on Wish, a nude rose tone.  In hindsight, I wish I would have picked a different shade, though I swear, the myth of "altitude sickness" is no myth!  I honestly felt woozy and tired, all the time I was in Park City and no, it wasn't the champagne!

The lipstick has a lot of shimmer to it and no scent and does not last on the mouth, at all. I love that the products are free from parabens and phthalates - but there are other natural brand lipsticks that have more color and staying power on the mouth.

I was given a catalog to leave with though it does not have any prices. You can purchase online and there I found the retail price of this lipstick is $29.93  - for $30, I can get a Charlotte Tilbury healthy lipstick with more bang for the buck.

Find out more about these new brands I met using these links:  Thanks again Kim and Katie!

How To Prepare For What the Roof Looks Like in Spring After a Severe Weather Winter

This winter is full of severe weather storms that are landing in the United States, particularly over Michigan - one right after another!

The best thing you can do in the severe weather is stay inside and protect your family and yourself.
When the weather lets up for a moment - that is the time to go outside and assess the damage.

Here is where you need a keen eye to help you prepare yourself for the coming spring time. By following these simple tips to monitor your own roof, you can save your self time and trouble in the spring. Plus, if you are proactive in booking a maintenance appointment you could also save money.

If your roof is heavily covered with snow and you see uneven patches of snow melt, make a note of the location and keep checking and rechecking the area.

If you notice that your gutters are building ice dams then you could have a problem with the drainage off the roof. Again, note the area and be ready to observe the same area in the next storm.

Finally, if there are any signs of trapped moisture in the walls of the home, the ceiling or attic - it's time to call your roofing contractor and be ready to schedule an appointment.

If you do not see any signs of damage, it is still a great idea to keep   an appointment on the book for your home and business roofs to be examined by a professional roofing contractor for any signs of hidden damage. This ounce of prevention will save you a pound of higher repair bill!

If you are in the Michigan area and want to work with the best roofing contractor, call Dearborn Michigan's best, Allpoint Construction.

FabFitFun Unboxing from Sundance Film Festival

Hi ya Gorgeous!
Happy Wednesday! Normally on a Wednesday, we would have a wine review - though, I need to gather some more details about Opolo Zinfandel, which was red, not pink, otherwise I would not have drank it! More on that later, for now, I would like to unbox the FabFitFun gift box I received in Park City during the Sundance Film Festival.

JustJudy and I - Sundance Film Festival 2019

I've just returned from the Sundance Film Festival and there I was given a gift box from FabFitFun. Watch to see what is inside! This is a starter box and not the full version you get when you order the subscription. I have a gift certificate to order a real version - so stay tuned for that!

REsolve Tuesday: End of the Month - Take Stock Now

Hi ya Gorgeous,

Happy Tuesday! Or I should really say, happy last Tuesday of the month of January.
It's time to check in and take stock of how you did in achieving your new year's resolutions.
Where are you in your goals?

Things to know going forward - if you did not achieve the action steps towards your year goals - let's look at if you have moved the goal line on yourself. Did you get near the goal with a small amount of success and then move the finish line?  If you did, move it back!  Let yourself enjoy the moment!
Little celebrations can go a long way in helping you settle into the new routine of succeeding for you!

I  achieved my blog goals and got close to my film goals but not all the way over the finish line. I attended the Sundance Film Festival with my creative projects and had meetings for packaging and distribution with them but did not sign the contracts to have them ready for production. It's a step forward.

So, today, I encourage you to resolve to take stock at the end of the day, the end of the week and the end of the month. Why so many check ins? Because it's easy to stray a little bit each day and then find at the end of the month that you are so far off track that you no longer feel like you can make the goal.

Actually, yes you can. Get back on track and keep moving forward. You are worth it! So take stock now at the end of the month and set yourself up for success next month too! If you need help -
try this journal - it helps block tasks into chunks of time and action items. You can do it!

4 Good Reasons to Care For Your Asphalt Shingles In Severe Winter Weather - Allpoint Construction - Dearborn Michigan

There is no doubt that severe winter weather is upon the north east and midwest portions of the United States. It's a polar vortex out there! This severe weather can cause multiple hidden issues and problems with a roof via moisture leaks and saturation.

If your home has asphalt shingles it is very strong and sturdy though it is not immune to seepage from severe weather. If you see any sign of cracks or chipped corners on your asphalt shingles then there is an entrance for moisture to begin damage to the shingle.

This video has four tips to help you assess any damage that may be happening to your asphalt shingles, gutters, and roof during heavy snow and frost conditions.

Enjoy the video and when you are ready to schedule a roof inspection please call 313- 209-6350 or visit this link

DIY lip balm - Because Winter Lips Need It!

Hi ya Gorgeous!

Happy Monday! Oh. How I love Mondays! Except this one in particular. Late, late, late last night I got in from Park City Utah. I had spent a long weekend at the Sundance Film Festival. Good times.
Though I really struggled with the weather - the altitude freezing temperature combination was a havoc wreaker!

Which brings me to today's post - the need to have ample moisturizer with you at all times. I think I went through an entire tube of chapstick while there. Technically, this area is considered a high desert. Not sure how they got to that conclusion but what I do know is that it's very very dry even though it's  covered in snow.

So it got me thinking about ingredients and the need to make my own lip balms. Like making my own lotion because then I know what is really in it and going on my skin.

I like using bees wax pastillescoconut oil and a cleaned out pot from a different product that way I am reusing plastic. (I think plastic is the bane of our generation. What was once meant to help has become the greatest detriment to a global citizenry! Or so says I.)

I melt those together, maybe mix a lil scrape of used lipstick tube into the base for a hint of color and then pour into the container.

So I'm getting ready to make a batch and was looking for a new recipe. Maybe something more specific to making my own lip products and came across a blog post from Wellness Mama.

Holy smokes. This gal has got it dialed in and her description of how to make your own lip balm is the step by step instructions you need!  Please use this link to get the WellnessMama recipe and easy to follow instructions for how to make your own healthy lip products!
Good luck and enjoy the making and mixing of your own makeups!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day - A Chance To Reflect

Hi ya Gorgeous,
Happy Monday to you. If you have been around MakeupUniversity for any amount of time, you know that I loves me a Monday! Today is extra special because it's a day of remembrance for Dr Martin Luther King Jr - a man who held firm to his beliefs and convictions in the face of tragedy and obstacles. Then, he overcame them.

Some of you may have the day off and some of you may be at work - no matter where you are, take a moment and do a search for the top quotes of Dr King.  In his short life -he accomplished a lot of good and left a legacy to be proud of.

Here are some of my favorites!

  1. "Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the whole staircase."
  2.  "There comes a time when silence is betrayal."
  3. "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
  4. "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."
  5. "Only in the darkness can you see the stars."
  6. "If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."
  7. "Darkness cannot drive out darkness: Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: Only love can do that."
  8. "Let no man pull you so low as to hate him."
  9. "That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing."
  10. "There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must take it because his conscience tells him it is right."
  11. "Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."
  12. "Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men."
  13. "Intelligence plus character--that is the goal of true education."
  14. "We must come to see that the end we seek is a society at peace with itself, a society that can live with its conscience."
And I few more for the road ...

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

How to Prepare For Your Roof Repair or Installation with Tittle Brothers Construction

If you are in the Canton Michigan area, this simple set of tips will help you get the most out of your roof repair or new roof installation.

Let Tittle Brothers Construction help you get the most out of your home roof investment.

Start with mowing the lawn for a clear unobstructed path to clean up after the work is finished.

Remember to cover important shrubs, gardens and flower beds - mark them too so that the workers know what they are working around.  It is a good idea to move your cars from the driveway so that the work truck can park close to the sight and have a safe pathway for moving ladders, tools and supplies.

Does the home or business roof in question have an attic that is full of memories or inventory? It's a good idea to move anything important before hand.

Do this the day ahead of any repair so that you save time for your budget and the Tittle Brothers Construction crew by having a clean open workspace for them to do the roof repair you hired them for in.

Finally, if you have any outdoor toys for the family or patio furniture, it's a good idea to move them so they don't have debris fall on them.

You can help your construction crew do their best work by providing a great work environment. This will help in the post repair clean up of the property as well.

If you are in need of a winter storm roof repair that is in emergency condition, please call
Tittle Brothers Construction.  If your home or business building is in need of an upgrade in roofing - the professionals at Tittle Brothers construction have what you need.

Get started today by calling (734)  225 -2525  or visit them on the web :

On the Road to Sundance 2019

 Hi ya Gorgeous,
Happy Friday and double happy long weekend. Thank you Dr Martin Luther King for all of your service and moving forward on ideas and dreams!

Which brings me to Sundance Film Festival. Next week, talented actress Judy and I are hitting the road to Park City in a Volkswagon for Lions Rest Productions.

More on the story below - but for those of you who need to just cut to the chase, here is a Paypal button to put any amount - every dollar counts - to help Judy and I make to to Utah by January 24th.

For those of you who would like to know more of the story and why this female filmmaker story is on my makeup page - here's the back story: a century ago, or so it feels like that, I had started in work in film production. I'm definitely a behind the camera kinda gal versus be in front. That's where Judy comes in - she's the talent and goes in front of the camera!

Judy on set of the pilot filming for Finding Chupa

She worked with me on the pilot for Finding Chupa, my mockumentary reality tv series.  You can learn more about that on it's Facebook page here: http://facebook.com/findingchupa

Me location scouting in Mescal for JAEL

So like I was saying - I finished my first film degree in Arizona, worked on some studio productions, then went back and did another version of a film degree in New York before working on some independent productions and then bada boom bada bing, I wound up in the makeup trailer.

After a turn in the 90's at Slamdance and SXSW with my first film series, "The Satori Chronicles", I'm now returning to the beginning and taking my talent with me!

Me at Slamdance with Troma's Toxie

We are producing a project along the way to document the process and then have some meetings in Park City for SVOD acquistion and distribution. Amen!

Please, if you could, would you please donate via Paypal to the journey - there and back again!

No amount is too large or too small! We are using the funds for gas, food, and lodging.

Thank you in advance and please stay tuned to Instagram and Twitter to follow along on the road to Sundance!

Wine Wednesday featuring wine from my local gas station - true story!

Hi ya Gorgeous!
My home state is experiencing weather like what other's get! It's been raining for 2 days now and there is more in the forecast for tomorrow! Whoa! Holy sticker bush Batman!

We don't normally get this kind of rain and on one hand I'm so thankful! This is so good for the desert, for Lake Mead, and for replenishing the land! Thank you God. Oh wait. This kind of rain will make the goat head bush that has stickers that pop car tires proliferate! So, the moral of the story is, you win some - you win some I guess.

Now on to the wine of the day -fresh from my small town gas  station. True story! I found Cocobon at this same station. Now the tweakers have been doubling up efforts on stealing from the store. So the selection is halved and the prices have doubled. Though there are some times when my home storage is depleted and I'm coming in off the road from a work trip and frankly, I need a nice glass of wine! So I head to the gas and sip to test my luck with what I can find!

Thank you for tuning in today! This edition of my series "Wine Wednesday" features a varietal that is both hearty, full bodied, a good red and worth having again or gifting! Opa!

Enjoy and please let me know in the comments which wines are your favorites!

How to Be a Booth Babe in a #MeToo Era - the Conundrum of the CES Show 2019

Hi ya Gorgeous,
Happy Monday to ya too! For me, today is the first real day back to life and to begin the new year 2019. My son has returned to school, and I'm back in the studio and online working as well as a full schedule of events.

One in particular, is the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, or CES.

Yes, I do love technology. And cars. And cars full of new technology. Normally I am on the show floor working for a tech brand. I scan badges, gather emails, distribute swag premiums, run giveaways, crowd gather and engage the guests in the top takeaway facts of the new product.

Though - not this year. It's different. I have my opinion and a loose gathering of facts from an online survey I ran over the past few weeks.

I believe and support the #MeToo movement and #TimesUp. It has done a tremendous amount of justice wrangling to the women who have had no voice. Who have suffered assault and trauma, especially in the work place.

There is a greater toll on a smaller side to the movement in my experience and that is, as a woman who regularly works at trade show conventions as a brand ambassador - or - booth babe, work has all but dried up.

The CES show is a massive city overtaking event that covers the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Aria, Cosmopolitan Sands Expo and more.  The expo show floor is covered in several thousands booths with brands that have a product to demonstrate and educate the attendees on it's benefits. That's where the brand ambassador, or booth hostess and some call her, the booth babe comes in. When I'm on the show floor it's my job to draw you to the booth, demonstrate the product, scan your badge and make sure that you leave your email in trade for some swag.  I like helping people find their new favorite product, or discover a new solution to an old problem and mainly be entertained at the advancements technology has made in a lifetime.

There are many sides to this conversation. There is me, who genuinely desires to help the guest and the brand that booked me to work.

There are some gals, that are just there to bare their breasts and do nothing else to collect the paycheck. I've heard and read articles like this one from @Spencerchen who wrote a guest article for Tech Crunch about how booth babes don't convert. I know what and who he is talking about. I've seen and worked with those gals who clearly are there to make some money in between their acting career gigs.

As an independent contractor in an ever changing field of gigs and employment it can be very difficult to get repeat gigs with brands because the booking agent changes often. Something about high stress and intense demand of work for low pay.

So goes life.

I've been following along on Twitter with the #CES2019 hashtag and read this article from
USA Today about how 'booth babes' are less obvious but not gone - written by Edward Baig and Jessica Guynn. The tone of the article mentions female executives relieved to not see the female brand ambassadors on the show floor. While another female executive says there are so few women on the CES speaking panels.

This is the conundrum of the CES show and brand ambassador, or booth hostess / booth babe work going forward for conventions and large events in a #MeToo era.

A business owner friend of mine has mentioned that when ever she booked a charity golf tournament in the past year and a half - she was asked to not bring her caddies. These caddies are women who have for the past decade worked the charity event as brand ambassadors to help staff the event. Nope. Not anymore.

Seems to me that the same old problem has a new shirt. Or different wrapper. Some women are working hard to be noticed for their work gifts and talents, some are getting by on their personal assets and some are trying to hold on to the lil bit o' ground they have so they shove the others working towards the success goal off the playground.  Sound familiar?

Please let me know in the comments your experiences and share this blog post so others can see the flip side of the coin!

Wine Wednesday - New Year Edition - 2019

Hi ya Gorgeous,

Happy New Year! This is the first video of the year and also the first Wine Wednesday for the coming year.

I have several bottles that I received as gifts to review - though, I am going to do a brand at a time to cover the specifics of each varietal.

Today I have a gift bottle of homemade plum wine. Wow. Just wow.

As you hear in the video, I'm posting a link of how to make your own plum wine.

I have not tried this, YET, but it is definitely on the list of things to do in 2019!

So if you could, would you please tell me in the comments:
1) What would you rather learn, resume writing or one woman business building
2) Do you make your own wine and what's your recipe?

Muah! Happy New Year!
