Best drugstore shampoo & Cover Girl Lash Blast Luxe in Royale review

TotalBeauty.com
Best Drugstore Shampoos

Though Pantene dominates this category, it wasn't number one. Guess what brand was?

Shampoo is something TotalBeauty.com readers feel very passionate about, which will become clear as you peruse these glowing reviews of their favorite shampoos. But the icing on the cake is that these products are all from the drugstore -- and many are under five bucks, no joke.

Happy Friday! To compliment the hair dryer story, here is a revisit to the best drugstore brand shampoos. Enjoy!
Speaking of drugstore products, I recently tried the Cover Girl Lash Blast Luxe in Royale, meaning navy blue.
When it comes to mascara, navy blue is the best for making whites of the eyes whiter and tired eyes look awake. This is a wee stinky of a product, but, I like the finish and with three coats it really does give a full lash look. It's not incredibly blue, so I'de like to see more pigment, but for under $10, this is a decent mascara. The new big hard brush wand took some getting used to, but again, I think it's worth your try for the price. Plus, it washes off easily. Enjoy!

Shaving helps and hints

Beauty Spotlight: Smooth Shave

Your must-have item this summer: seriously sultry skin. Luckily, we've got everything necessary to achieve it. From quizzes to find your perfect shave method, to tips and celebrity inspiration. We even asked more than 200 guys what they find sexy -- check out their answers here.

I recently was sent a sample of a new razor that had a block of moisturizer on the end of it. Good in theory and poor in practice because it only rubbed from one side and made a gooey glop of semi useful lotion like substance on the other. The blade barely reached the skin and so it didn't do much of a shave at all.

Enjoy the beauty bubble and the shaving options you have! P.S. If you are an at home leg waxer, we want to hear from you! Post your comments of success or not so successful at home wax kits and techniques please!

The tricksy business of picking a hair conditioner

TotalBeauty.com
The 10 Lowest-Rated Conditioners

See which products from Dove, Aveda and more left our readers with dry or greasy (ew!) hair

They say good hair starts in the shower -- but only if you have the right products. Unfortunately, these hair conditioners do not make the cut. All of them either left TotalBeauty.com readers with limp, greasy hair -- or dry and frizzy strands. Check them out, so you'll know what not to buy if you want beautiful hair in your future.

See conditioners

No. 10: Garnier Fructis Fortifying Curl & Shine Cream Conditioner, $2.99

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 5.7

"It does make my hair less frizzy, but I lost so much volume I would almost welcome back the frizz instead of [a] flat head ..."

No. 9: Dove Advanced Care Conditioner, $4.75

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 5.6

"It didn't soften, or condition my hair as others have ..."

No. 8: Aveda Blue Malva Color Conditioner, $17

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 5.5

"Although it doesn't deposit color on my hair like it should, it does succeed in depositing on my bathtub, leaving gray stains."

Want to see what's the worst? Click here!

Conditioner can be a tricky thing; necessary but how much? The stylist has said most people use too much, though I like my hair to be slickery in the shower and light and bouncy after dried.
I use a mix of products, though I must say, lately the Schwarzkopf line Bona Cure has been my fave. Oh, it's also pricey. I switch between that and a shea butter formula, which is a bit of a knock off from Frederic Fekkai's version. I bought it at Sally's as a travel size and liked it enough to back and get more.
Here's my tip for the day with conditioner: yes, put sunscreen on your scalp and a wee dollop of conditioner on your ends to protect hair while out in the sun all day. I say this because I have a wicked sunburn on my scalp and the ends are crunchy. Ah, live and learn. See you at Big Surf in my granny suit!

For moisturizing and soft hands: or where ever you want to put this:

1 part rose water

1 part glycerin

Mix equal parts together and tinker with till you get the consistency of paste that you like. Now put/store in glass jar next to the sink or where you bathe. Use as often as you need it!
