Hello and Happy Saturday!
It's a time to enjoy one last "stay-cation", reflect on seasons past and get ready to launch into the encroaching full swing of "retail" season. Meaning that merchandisers are about to pull hard on your mind, will and emotions for the almighty dollars and get you to buy their product ...for halloween, thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and everything in between.

While you calm your nerves about retail mania, take a look at the many looks of Britney Spears in today's beauty byte.

She's been many things and everything whether we like it or not. Some of the looks have been really really good, and some, well, can be left in the paparazzi bin.

Enjoy your Saturday, and if you are in Arizona; remember Fall is coming any week now. We have another stretch of over one hundred degree days, but then; cool weather and it sure beats having a hurricane in our backyard!

Wee! Thank God it's Friday! I'm ready for the weekend! Okay, I'm always ready for the weekend.

I have not personally tried these...but...I would like to because I need a pedicure and can't get into the spa for some time. To think that fully polished nails can be done at home with a set of polish stickers? IF you have tried these, please post and share the results! Also, let me know where you can get them. In Arizona, put all your deets especially if you have a retail store. I know that the mall in Laughlin Nevada has a cart that you can shop off of, do you have one? Post it!

Thank you for your continued support of Makeup University and the beauty blog! Here in Arizona there are many beauty events coming up: Med Spa parties, the East Valley bridal fashion show, and Scottsdale's Fashion week which is similar but not the same as New York.

Get out locally and enjoy the beauty scene...if you don't have one in your area, start one!

GOD BLESS AMERICA as we remember the attack of September 11th

I know where I was when it happened, on location in Kona Hawaii. I had just seen the news as I was leaving my hotel and it was on the radio too.
Alan Jackson sings an amazing song in tribute to this day. Do you remember where you were and what happened? It's odd that at the time, the nation was crying and saying that they will never forget. Though it seems as if life has gone back to normal for most of us, though there are still questions and families grieving.

I'm keeping it in prayer and intercession today, and most importantly, even though tragedy has happened, I still say GOD BLESS AMERICA! Land of the free! Home of the brave. There is none other like us! God loves us and He is for us!

Guys and the need for retexturizing...before shaving

Friends, and friends of friends: guys and guy friends:
Just because you shave doesn't mean you don't need one more step of exfoliation.

Lately I have been seeing so many different levels of tough, rough skin on men!

It is in contrast to the most recent cover I saw on the newstands that men are getting facials and manicures. These guys must be tucked away in an office cubicle somewhere because the everyday gentleman I encounter in my day, needs to retexturize his skin.

There are a couple of choices: either use a fruit acid, a glycolic acid or a fine grained scrub. Yes, fine. Just because you are male, doesn't mean it needs to be the texture of Lava hand soap. Washing your face shouldn't hurt!

Before you shave, simply use an acid pad, like AB Skincare in 10% solution. Or, if you like to rub and scrub use Dermalogica's face scrub.

Now shave. Now finish with a light weight moisturizer, choose the brand that you like. And just some info, some packaging and brand names are just for men, but there is not alot of difference between "men" products and regular anti-aging products.

The only time there is a big difference is if it is an acne control product.

Try Zirh, or Jack Black or Davies Gate. If all that sounds foreign and your not willing to make an extra trip, then pick up some Neutrogena while at the grocery store, Olay or L'Oreal will work wonders too.

Good luck and thanks for retexturizing and moisturizing your skin. The women of the world thank you!

p.s. Speaking of guy stuff: I just got the new solo album from Brian Head Welch called Save Me From Myself and it's lovely. He needs to retexturize his skin too.

Why the glamour of 1940's has never gone away and how you can get it too!

Washington's Best Hairstyles

See how women like Cindy McCain, Jenna Bush and Michelle Obama are making Capitol Hill more stylish

Washington's Best Hairstyles

When most of us think of political hair, we picture hairsprayed-beyond-belief bobs and matronly updos. But newcomers on the political scene (like Sarah Palin) are shaking up that image with softer hair (that actually moves). Check out our picks of the best political hair from now and years past. These women prove that there is plenty of style in Washington, D.C.

And speaking of hairstyles...click to enlarge the article below, it's how to do your own 1940's style hair rolls using a hair rat. It's worth the read, and if you need to save it to your computer and open in Word to make it large enough to read. Now, onto makekup!

For great online resource of photos, go to www.angeljagger.com she is a modern day makeup artist who does amazing retro beauty.

I think there was something classic and stylish to the pulled together and accessorized look of that era that has not been duplicated since. The movie stars of that time never went out looking like a schlumpadinka. In fact, Joan "no more wire hangers" Crawford said in an interview that it is part of her job to always look her best and never would leave the house with out false eyelashes, lipstick and a full face of powder.

How different from today! A retro beauty face is one that is covered in foundation, has blush, a deep toned mouth, brows, lashes and shadow! The application is more precise and what would be considered a "classic" face.

The Total Beauty byte for today is on the hair of the women in the White House. What would Mrs. Washington say! Trends have changed and it's going from formal to loose and more modern magazine fashion photo shoot'ish.

Enjoy the trip back in time and a big thanks to all the support at the Fresh Start Women's Foundation workshop last night!
