REsolve Tuesday: taste and see!

Hi ya Gorgeous!
I'm home from a quick trip to the Los Angeles area for the Producer's Guild Oscar party. Oh what fun we had!

I haven't watched the show in a while - though this year with the "no host" was an opportunity to see something new birthed!  Did you watch the show? I did - and honestly, I think the new format worked!  So it's safe to say that the Academy has "REsolved" to try something new!

This video is a chance to taste and see that life is good! What is the newest food or thing you have tried lately that stretched your comfort zone?  Let me know in the comments!  Enjoy the video!

You know, I'm glad I tried these new snacks. They are part of my commitment to revamp my eating and health through food as fuel.  The dizziness is about 80% better and I've come along way from the February 3rd start of severe vertigo!  Thank you God for healing and ginger tea fixing the sicky belly!

What's your go to health fix?

Oscars Prep - Watch Shoplifters by Hirokazu Koreeda

Hi ya Gorgeous,

It's  award season and all things come to a big finale tonight at the Academy Awards where an Oscar will go to many winners in many categories and Shoplifters is nominated for best foreign language film.

This film was written and directed by Hirokazu Koreeda
who is also known for Nobody Knows, Still Walking, and After the Storm.

I had the opportunity to watch a screener at home, though the film is available in theaters and I would highly recommend seeing this on a big screen. The coloring is muted, though I think that speaks to the dull work life the family experiences and then in the next scene a bright pop of color as the family is enjoying a meal, a bath or a trip to the beach.

This film has some mature content and is rated R. Though this is a film about family it is not suitable for youth.

The thing I liked best about the film is that the family was patched together like strays creating a pack. Even though there is little blood relation between the characters they lived as a family and you could say that their familial bond was tighter than most blood ties
Each character in the Shoplifters has a full story arc and life in the film and  as the story progresses in it's almost 2 hour run  time, we watch the family members  make tough life choices and life the consequences of it.

This is a beautiful story and it's very well told.  If you enjoy a good drama with masterful storytelling that peels back layers of a character relating to their world, you will enjoy Shoplifters.

Please tune in tonight as Shoplifters is nominated for an Oscar - and it has already won the Palm D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival so there is a strong chance that Hirokazu Koreeda can take home the trophy!

Below is the official story synopsis from the IMDb website:

After shoplifting from a store, Osamu and his son run into a little homeless girl shivering with cold. At first glance, Osamu's wife is not quite keen to take her under her wing, but she eventually feels sorry for her. Despite eking a living from shoplifting, the family is happy until an unforeseen incident unveils a secret that puts their bond to the test.
Couple Osamu and Nobuyo, their adolescent "son" Shota, and Nobuyo's "sister" and "mother", Aki and Hatsue, live together in Hatsue's small and isolated house in Tokyo. Although Osamu and Nobuyo have legitimate blue collar jobs, and Aki works as an exotic dancer of sorts in a men's club, they largely exist on Hatsue's deceased husband's pension and through shoplifting whatever they may need, in addition to Nobuyo stealing from her employer. Osamu's outward belief is that if something is in a store and no one has yet bought it, it doesn't actually belong to anyone and thus shoplifting is not stealing from anyone. Osamu and Shota do the bulk of the shoplifting of their day-to-day goods, their shoplifting M.O. which they have perfected to pat routine. On their way home after a shoplifting run, they spot a five year old girl who they have routinely seen huddled outside what they assume is her house, she as usual looking scared and malnourished.

This day, they decide to take her home with them, in the process over time learning that she is Juri, an abused child. Ultimately, Osamu and Nobuyo decide to keep her, eventually changing her name to Lin and cutting her hair to make her look different after they discover two months after the fact that her abusive parents are finally looking for her. As Shota ends up being Lin's most frequent companion in he not attending school - Osamu and Nobuyo who have told him that only children who don't have the luxury of being taught at home need to go to school - he involves her in his routine shoplifting, the only life he knows. This new situation of Lin in their lives has the potential to bring this makeshift family come tumbling down around them as each person begins to question their past actions. If this figurative house does come crashing down, the alternative may not be better in the options of what is one's choice versus what is one's circumstance, the latter quite often biologically-based.

Happy Presiden't Day - Never Forget What the Founding Fathers Did

Hi ya Gorgeous!
Happy Monday - and, Happy President's Day!

Today in the United States we celebrate the birthdays of two of our influential founding fathers, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

So today is about more than an extra day off and retail sales - there is  a key to the history of a founding father being future oriented and community minded. These greats that have gone before us in history and were about building a strong country and community. Going forward, it's important for each of us to take a civic responsibility for bettering the planet. Start small, start local, just start!

Here is some useful specific details from Britannica.com
The origin of Presidents’ Day lies in the 1880s, when the birthday of Washington—commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolution and the first president of the United States—was first celebrated as a federal holiday.

In 1968 Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Bill, which moved a number of federal holidays to Mondays. The change was designed to schedule certain holidays so that workers had a number of long weekends throughout the year, but it has been opposed by those who believe that those holidays should be celebrated on the dates they actually commemorate.

During debate on the bill, it was proposed that Washington’s Birthday be renamed Presidents’ Day to honour the birthdays of both Washington (February 22) and Lincoln (February 12); although Lincoln’s birthday was celebrated in many states, it was never an official federal holiday.

My Monday Celery Juice recipe

Hi ya Gorgeous!
Oh happy day! I love Mondays. I get so much accomplished on a Monday!
Including a new recipe for my celery juice regimen. I've been doing celery juice almost everyday for about 2 weeks now. I have noticed some health benefits and the goal is to help lower my blood pressure using food versus a medication.

I make plain celery juice and sometimes I add apple, lemon, garlic or ginger.  I use my fancy unicorn cup to sip it and I guess the total amount to be about 2 cups, maybe a little more some days and maybe a little less on others. I use my Vitamix to create a thin juice - meaning it runs a little bit longer to really moosh everything together.

I really wonder what the sudden craze to drink celery juice is doing to the production market of celery? How has a sudden demand for celery going to meet out over time?

Will celery become the new gold? It's health benefits surely are worth their weight in gold!

Celery is rich in vitamin A, magnesium, and iron, which all help to nourish the blood. Celery juice is also rich in organic sodium content, meaning it has the ability to dislodge calcium deposits from the joints and hold them in solution until they can be eliminated safely from the kidneys and by boosting digestion, lemon water also reduced the load of the liver. Celery JuiceCelery is rich in vitamins and iron, making is a great tonic for the liver. The nutrients protect the liver and researchers have found that when treated with celery extract, liver cells produced liver enzymes that flush toxins.

Recipe from Vitamix for a Ginger Green Juice - this is tomorrow's drink mix!

  • ½ cup (120 ml) water
  • 1 cucumber, quartered
  • 1½ stalks celery, diced
  • 2 apples, seeded, cored, quartered
  • 2 cups (60 g) kale, chopped
  • 1 inch (3 cm) fresh ginger root

  1. Place all ingredients into the Vitamix container in the order listed and secure lid.
  2. Select Variable 1.
  3. Turn machine on and slowly increase to the highest speed.
  4. Blend for 30-45 seconds, using the tamper to press the ingredients into the blades.
  5. Strain through a filtration bag.
  6. Store in refrigerator. Use within 2 days.

So when would now be a good time to add some celery juice to your diet?

Help For Finding Your Michigan Roofing Contractor

Who needs help finding a great trustworthy home roof contractor in Michigan? It's easy when you know what to look for! These simple solutions to help you narrow down the selection of contractors in the greater Michigan area.

Start by asking for referrals from friends, family and coworkers. You never know who your inner circle knows and you just may find that a highly qualified and trusted roofing contractor is a friend of a friend.

It's important to search and read reviews online. People share their experiences whether they are good or bad - and if you set aside some time to read the comments and reviews you can help narrow down your choices. When you are choosing the best roofing contractor for your home or business building be sure to check if the company provides a free written estimate of any repairs needing to be done.

When you have a few referral names for your contractor, visit the state website and search for the business license of the contractor you are interested in. This extra step can identify any contractors operating on an expired license or, even help you weed out a contractor with no license.

A little due diligence now can save you time and money in the long run!

If you are in the Downriver area of Michigan one of the best and most trusted roofing contractors is Allpoint Construction.  Use the phone number below and get started today on your new roof remodel or build project!

Super Bowl LIII New England Patriots vs the Los Angeles Rams

Hi ya Gorgeous,
Here we are on Super Bowl Sunday. It's a game played in Atlanta Georgia between the  New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams.

So this year is different. It's weird actually. After all of the controversy around the NFL players kneeling and such, my family and I have decided that it's not for us anymore. So I don't have any game day looks, or game day recipes or froo froo cocktails to share for the event.

What I do have is a fun flashback to previous MakeupUniversity  videos from Super Bowl Sunday and where it gets really weird, is that the Patriots were playing in these Super Bowl games too.  Conspiracy theory much?

How ever you choose to spend this day - I wish you a safe and fun time makin' memories!

What Characteristics to Look for in an Ann Arbor Roofing Contractor

There are so many options for a roofing contractor in Ann Arbor Michigan.  These tips will help you narrow down your selection and choose a great fit for your roofing needs.

First, choose a local contractor who knows the terrain, the weather, the vermin and unique characteristics to the home builds in your area.  Michigan is home to great lakes which bring moisture to the land and air. There are rich forests and shrubbery in Michigan that makes for great ground cover to animals meaning a unique selection of vermin that can affect your home and roof with infestation. When your roofing contractor is a local - they will know the delicate balance of nature and building in your Michigan area.

Second, it's key to get a written estimate that details what was inspected, what needs repair and how long the repair will take. When it's in writing, it will be easier for both parties to be accountable to the repair. If a roofing contractor refuses to put in writing an estimate for repair time, materials used and labor - it's time to choose a different contractor!

Third, there could be challenges that pop up after the repair is completed. It's really important for you to get a warranty or guarantee on the work and materials used.
