This first week of February is so packed with fun and adventure. First-it's TEEN WEEK here on the blog, then it's Groundhog Day, which in Arizona doesn't really mean much because it's always sunny here. Oh except for the freak rain storm we had last week. Then tomorrow on Sunday its Super Bowl time, which we all know means hot wings and multi-million dollar commercial judging time.

Alas-here's a bit of info about Punxsutawney Phil and the history of the Groundhog Day weather forcasting system. Below that I have the trailer for the movie with Bill Murray and Andi McDowell. It's so funny and worth a Red Box for the weekend!
 

An Early Spring or More Winter?
The forecast for Groundhog day 2013 in McLean calls for mostly cloudy skies and a high of 38 degrees.
The forecast that matters on Groundhog Day—the one at Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, Penn.—calls for snow showers and a high of 22 degrees. That means there’s a good chance of cloudy skies, and that means Punxsutawney Phil will not see his shadow. Not seeing his shadow means we may get an early spring after all!

Personally, I pick out a signature fragrance for each year. True, I always have my classic Chanel No5 ready-but then I pick out a "2013" scent, for me this year it's Faith Hill's Soul 2 Soul.

Beauty is getting pushed over a fiscal cliff of its own in 2013 and hair industry icon and founder of Let’s Talk about your Hair.com, Peter Antony Wynn, is calling the treacherous forecast. 

Peter Anthony states that with Obamacare, about 90% of salons will not be able to afford adequate healthcare for their employees. 

 As a result, stylists are becoming independent booth renters at salons and are then required to market themselves in order to maintain business. 

Since business and marketing is not a subject offered in beauty school, Peter Anthony is expressing concern to current and future stylists about the importance of self-marketing. 

 I had a few questions of my own for Mr. Wynn, enjoy and learn!

2. What's the least expensive marketing tool the hair dresser can begin using?

Doing amazing hair. Period.  After that making sure clients have the right tools to repeat the process at home. 

3. Can you recommend a long term marketing plan/tool for the hair dresser to use to increase new clients and client retention?

Education on business and continued self-improvement.  

4. How should the hair dresser use social media marketing for their business?

Hair dressers should really use sites like LTAYH.com because they help by keeping their customers in touch with them and finding new people.  They can get pictures of their work published easily with links back to their profile client and potential clients can learn about the stylist and the salon and even book an appointment right from the site. 

5. What's your 2013 forecast for the individual hair dresser in a year marked by 'fiscal cliff'?

 I predict tough times if they do not rise to the occasion.  They will need to increase the size of their clientele to keep the same amount of cash flow.  People are going to become even more discerning as they have less money to spend on luxury items.  The best will rise. The average will need to become better.

Need help getting some party ready for New Year's eve? Enjoy this post with step by step instructions from celebrity stylist Thomas Dunkin with Sebastian.

The holiday season is in full swing and going from the office to a holiday celebration is the pleasant reality for many.  However, 5 o’clock hair isn’t nearly as bouncy and fresh as it was earlier in the day, which can cause a holiday hairstyle to be, well, deflated.

 

Celebrity stylist Thomas Dunkin, whose clients include Rachel McAdams, Michelle Williams and Isla Fisher, reveals his top hair tips for going from day to night depending on hair type and length!

 

 

 

 

FOR LONG HAIR: “Go for fuss-free waves!”

1.)    Wear hair to work in a braided bun and take it out just before the work day is over.

2.)    Loosen it up with fingers to create a soft ‘beachy’ wave. 

3.)    Spritz the hair with Sebastian Professional Trilliant ($19.95) for a beautiful shine and soft hold.

(NOTE: The tighter the braid, the more wavy it will be.) 

 

 

FOR CURLY MEDIUM TO LONG HAIR: "Embrace those curls for a fun holiday look.”

1.)    Wear hair curly to work.

2.)    Before leaving the office, apply a small amount of Sebastian Professional Whipped Cream ($19.95) to hair.

3.)    Take small to medium sections of hair and pull them towards the back of the head while twirling them around two fingers. Secure in place with bobby pins.

FOR FINE HAIR: “Go for an updo with maximum body, using a hair donut or hair pad.”

3.)    Place the pad at the crown and secure with bobby pins. Take small sections of hair and wrap the hair around pad, tucking the hair under it and securing it with a hair pin.
