I am in Las Vegas for the International Beauty Show and working with Sun Labs.

Do you want to protect your skin and get a tan? I've been playing with my sample of Jergens natural GLOW and proect which is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation as being safe for daily use because it has a dual spectrum spf 20.
What I like about it is that it smells good. Most self tanners have a very distinct smell about them-but not this one, it's light and floral.
I use gloves when applying to avoid any colored palms. It smoothes on easily, does take a bit to dry-but then again I could have put too much on?
I am using the medium to tan skin tone-even though my natural body shade is doughy white. If it's working for me, it just may work for you! About $8 at mass retailers such as Target and Walmart.

Give Up Tanning in the New Year It could save your life and your looks
December 30, 2010 (New York, NY) – Almost 36 percent of the women and 12.2 percent of the men aged 18-24 surveyed in a recent study tanned indoors in the last year, according to the journal Archives of Dermatology. These young people may believe they look better with a tan, but in fact they are putting themselves at risk for skin cancer and aging their skin prematurely.
Tanning machines emit dangerous ultraviolet (UV) radiation, and frequent tanners using new high-pressure sunlamps may receive as much as 12 times the annual ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation they would receive from regular sun exposure.
“Our hope for the new year is that people begin to understand that tanning beds are dangerous and very harmful to the skin,” said Perry Robins, MD, President, The Skin Cancer Foundation. “We hope in 2011 that use of tanning beds will decrease.”
UV radiation is a proven human carcinogen, and is linked with a higher risk of all forms of skin cancer, including potentially deadly melanoma, which is the most common form of cancer among young adults 25-29 years old. On average, indoor tanners are 74 percent more likely to develop melanomas than non-tanners. They are also 2.5 times more likely to develop squamous cell carcinoma and 1.5 times more likely to develop basal cell carcinoma, the two most common skin cancers.
The damage caused by the UV radiation emitted by the sun and tanning beds is cumulative and often irreversible. The destructive process of photoaging – premature skin aging due to UV exposure – produces profound structural changes in the skin including fine wrinkles, deep grooves, blotchiness, sagging and a leathery texture. Some of these changes may appear as early as the age of 20 in anyone who has spent a great deal of time exposing their skin to UV radiation during childhood and teen years.
“Chronic exposure to UVA radiation accelerates the aging of skin five to seven years,” said Philippe Humbert, MD, head of the Department of Dermatology at the University Hospital of Besançon and Director of the Laboratory of Cutaneous Biology at the University of Franche-Comte in Besançon, France.
In addition to the obvious health risks and link to premature aging, the tanned look is no longer in fashion. The trend started with Hollywood actresses such as Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow and is now taking hold. I realize that the TSA has made it impossible to fly anywhere these days unless you like pedophiles sexually harrassing you and your children or you don't mind lethal doses of radiation while going through scanners that show you as naked as the day you were born.

How to apply bronzer: the secret to a healthy looking glow the safe way by using a bronzing makeup in any form you can find or prefer. Bronzer is a great way to have your makeup look fresh, your skin look healthy, and destination brides the bronzer is your friend when it comes to do it yourself bridal makeup.
As a professional makeup artist, I consider using bronzer a staple in my makeup case. Personally as a makeup wearer: I don't leave home with out it.
Bronzer can come in a loose powder, a pressed compact, a liquid stain, or gel stick. The first secret to your bronzer success is that it be applied in the right areas.
When you look at your face in the mirror, find the high points that would get the most sun. The forehead, tops of cheeks, nose and chin. I would include the very middle of your eyelids and top of your chest also because if you have ever gotten a really good sunburn or tan, these areas get colored as well.
Imagine a W pattern across your face. If you placed the bronzing product on the top of the W, working from left to right of the letter as if it were placed on your face.
The bronzer colors the top of your left temple, down the cheek to the chin, then up over the nose and forehead and down the right side of your cheek, chin and finish at the top of your right temple.
The powder bronzer is the most common and it's usually pressed into a compact. A large domed fluffy brush will give the best application that looks subtle and natural. When you move into using sponges or fingers, it puts a lot of product in one area that then has to be blended down into the skin to look natural.
If you are using a gel or liquid bronzer, apply it to freshly moisturized or over a liquid foundation so there is a lot of slip on the skin to blend with.
If you want to use your bronzer as a blush and have a deep brown/bronze looking blush, then just swirl your powder/blush brush into the product, knock off the excess and apply to the apples of your cheeks.
A very 1980's retro look would be to swish the bronzer through the hollow of the cheek in a kidney bean shape. You apply bronzer this way by sucking in your cheeks and making fish lips then applying the bronzer in a sweeping motion from the hollow of the cheek, pass under the cheek bone and back towards the ear and hairline.
Bronzer as a cosmetic is by far one of the most versatile and I recommend having two shades.
One for every day use and all over the face and the second slightly darker shade for contouring or creating a very deep tan look and using over larger parts of your body.
Some of my favorite products for bronzing are:

The bronzer can be brushed along your neck, collarbone, dcollet and when you have lines from wearing different style tanks and swimsuits in the summertime it can be brushed on easily to the areas that need more color and washed off with our fear of staining or streaking.
So get some bronzer in any form you prefer and keep on hand for the upcoming busy holiday season, parties and just looking healthy.

Hello sweet friends! For many of you summer is coming to an end, though here in Arizona we are in the middle of the monsoon season which means that it is extremely hot and extremely humid! I am still out running and triathlon training in the heat but with that wee bit of humidity it sure can take the fun out of a ten mile run.
So with all that running, swimming and biking, I have alot of weird criss cross tan lines!
The lovely folks at Fake Bake sent me a sample of their self tanning products to help ease the maze of lines on me. Everything you need to get a great bronze toned self tan at home is shown.
Before I started spraying the moisture mist, I already exfoliated really good in the shower with a scrub and some mits!
Now, I hose myself down on the left leg, the one with the tattoos using the Mistifier Moisture Mist by Fake Bake. The night before I hosed my Kindergartner with it and he says it tickles!
I let it set a moment on my leg and I put on the blue gloves and pumped out some product from the Xtreme Fake Bake self tanning gel.
Then I begin to rub it in. Now, my grip it and rip it personality did not read the instructions before applying. At least I got the exfoliating part down and done! Afterwards I was reading the instructions and you are supposed to start in a small area, with a little product and work in little circles until that area is absorbed and tanned, now repeat the process in a new area to be tanned.
Oh no, that is not what I did. I pumped out a glopful and started up and down the leg trying to
blend it in! The instructions say it won't streak and I believe that if you followed the instructions it won't. I have a wee bit of streak in mine, but then again, I didn't necessarily apply it like you are supposed to.
Well, live and learn I say!
Now, the brown color helps guide you as to where you have covered. Instructions say that some of that will come off in the shower, but remember, after self tanning when in the shower don't exfoliate but wash gently to help preserve your self tan. There is also a recommendation to do this at night so there is more time for the color to cure on your body. Yes, that's right, to cure; just like jerky. Okay, here it is! Fake Bake Xtreme self tanner test at home by me: my left leg has one coat of the product and my right one does not.

Okay, wait til you see the before and afte pics on this product! I love that it doesn't smell chemically like other brands, and it does give a nice brown hue to the skin instead of a orangey one. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with a self tanner, find a brand you like and maybe even try this one. Do you know why? Because skin cancer is on the rise in young twentysomethings and it's not from over exposure at the beach or in my town at the Salt River tubing party; it's from the proliferation of indoor tanning beds. Here is a patch of bare skin ready to be "self tanned".
So do yourself and your skin a favor, try some Nature's Gate ( get it at Sprouts!) sunless tanner.
This is a second coat of the Nature's Gate sunless tanner being applied to a patch of pale and bare skin.
Here's a quickie how to apply sunless tanner and not look funky: 1. Exfoliate the area, or your whole body! I recommend using the scrubby gloves that are like a dollar at Walmart. Apply a scrub to the scrubby gloves, this can be something lovely like Quick Tan sunless tanning prep scrub or the St. Ives apricot scrub which I find to be too harsh for my face but great for my knees, elbows and heels.
2. Apply a paraben free lotion to the bendy parts of you: meaning toe knuckles, elbows, knees, ankles so that the lotion fills in the wee skin folds.
3. Apply and rub in the self tanner and stand in a big X until it's dry. This could be a minute, could be five. The point is, the more you move while the product still feels tacky to your touch the more chance you have of streaking.

While it's no fun to apply sunscreen (unless of course someone else does it for you), using these top-rated products will hopefully make it a tad more enjoyable.
Honestly, everything that comes into the blog I test personally. So I was really excited to get a sample for the Body Drench Quick Tan Body Scrub to help slough off the crunchy layer of chlorine dried skin and then smooth on some lovely self tanner color. I got the mail after I had gone running and taken a shower so instead of a full body slather (there is always tomorrow!) I just did my legs since that is what sticks out on the majority of my normal day. Ooh, the body scrub has a chocolately buttery smell and it's delicous! It gives a foamy lather and doens't have alot of grain/grit to it-so I would categorize it as a medium exfoliant. That is somewhere between ripping skin off and just lightly buffing the tough stuff. Next I open up the Comodynes self tanning towelette which I have taken to calling my tan glove of love. It doesn't have a chemically smell, in fact it doesn't smell like the usual self tanner at all and the scent is actually quite pleasant. Now for the sake of modesty and your retinas being seared with an image I have refrained from making one large swatch of tan glove love over my nearly translucent white midsection. I have the same body coloring as a shark: dark on the back, light on the belly. You may remember the Comodynes name because they make amazing makeup remover towelettes that you can buy for $4.99 at Trader Joes.
Those things are awesome!
Well, as you can tell I do all my own testing and photography. What I wanted you to see is that this thin cotton glove is saturated with a solution that is browning my legs as I write! I'll post a full 3 hours later photo...later... My experience with the Comodynes self tanning towelettes is good. No stinky smell, didn't rub off on my clothes or towels. I did wash my hands right after using and I didn't have any discoloring of my palms.
