How to Celebrate National Lipstick Day

Hi ya Gorgeous!

Today is more than Saturday or Caturday,  it's National Lipstick Day!

Did you know that  lipstick was not rationed during the war? The Queen of England had a shade made just for  her in a red that matched her robes and sash, it's called Balmoral after her childhood home in Scotland.

I am a lipgloss lover, though today, we celebrate lipstick. I have some beautiful samples to share with you from several brands.  I love that lipstick can elevate a low mood as well as be the perfect accessory to a power suit or party dress!

In this photo from left to right is the Black Opal lip crayon with a super rich matte color. Catrice lipstick is a popular European brand and the coverage is full with a tone of color and moisture. Next is Pacifica, one of the best vegan beauty brands out there!

The Pacifica liquid mineral lipstick is smooth and well wearing on the lip.  I have two colors from Essence Cosmetics in their matt matt matt line, there is a nude beige tone and then a warm mauve tone -  these lipsticks are matte and buttery on the mouth - not drying at all! In the photo, the next lip stain from Alima Pure is new to me and I'm in love with this soft tint with lots of moisture!  It's perfect for gals going back to school!

Finally in the photo you see the two Lorac Alter Ego lip stains in Activist and Secret Agent. I'm a fan of this brand, and these lip stains pack a powerful long wearing tint that is also moisturizing that doesn't build up on the mouth.

Finally, how do you apply your lipstick? Sure, it's easy to bullet it on but if you take the extra step of applying with a precision lip brush, like this one from Royal Langnickel in the Moda Metallics collection you will have a longer lasting application with super precise detail to the cupid bows and corners of the mouth.

You should try one and be sure and get a couple, one for your home, purse and work/school space!

Final thought, remember that today, MAC Cosmetics is giving away a free lipstick! Go get one!

How to use the Beauty and the Beast makeup color story from LORAC for everyday wear

Hi ya Gorgeous

How's your Monday now? Or should I say, how's your summer? Here in Arizona, the summer is in full broil and school for the cub starts back in 3  short weeks ...or are they short? He is definitely ready to go back and see his friends which brings to mind the question that year round school, with a 2 week break in between semesters would do just fine. On to the makeup!

I recently received some very lovely samples from LORAC of their color story collection for the reboot of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Something to know going forward, I am ride or die for the original 1990's animated version and none to thrilled about another warmed over version of an Oscar winning trophy of a film.  In short, I have not seen the film yet, and when it arrives on Netflix, I will let you know my thoughts.

In the meantime, I think that LORAC has knocked it out of the park again, with Disney, and another amazing, collector edition of a makeup color story for a film. I was SO impressed with the Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales collection ,though this is just as stunning.

I have the eyeshadow pallet, cheek color palette, lipglosses and lipsticks and I'm beyond delighted! The colors are everyday perfect and if you know LORAC products, you know how soft, silky, smooth, blendable, pigmented, wet or dry they are!

I love all of the lip colors and the lipsticks or lip glosses can be worn alone, with liner, paired together or mixed and matched!

If you are a fan of anything Disney, Belle, Beast, the film or LORAC and special editions, rush to get these now because who knows how long they will be around!

12 Days of Giving with Makeup University - Meet LORAC Limited Edition palettes

Hi ya Gorgeous!
Happy December! Whoa - where did the year go? Only 31 days left in 2016! Can you believe it?

So with countdowns in mind, today starts a series called "12 Days of Giving" here on Makeup University and it's a chance to focus on a beauty product while also giving attention to a random act of kindness.

The product is the very beautiful twin set of limited edition shadows from LORAC.

Meet Black Tie Affair and Tails And Top Hats! These are stocking stuffer ready for gift giving to the beauty lover in your life!

Enjoy the YouTube video!

And for a random act of kindness I have these suggestions: giving does not have to be financial - if you want it to be, then buy the coffee for the person behind you in the coffee drive up lane.

If you would rather do an act of service, then maybe do a chore for a family member so they don't have to, or without being asked, do something that you are often asked to do, and finally, why not write a hand written note to someone you know would love to get some mail that isn't a bill!

Personally, I love getting mail, and never do!

Let's make this the most merriest Christmas season ever!

Mascara is the best beauty product ever!

These pro tricks will take your mascara to a whole new level
How to Get Long, Thick Lust-Worthy Lashes
So you just bought that top-rated mascara. Now what? Put it to good use! It's all about using the right techniques to get your longest, thickest lashes ever.

Oy! Mascara is my most favorite beauty product ever! Though I slather my weight in lip gloss yearly;  I would still pick mascara as my all time can't live without cosmetic.

With that said, now I would like to share a bit about you and your lashes and what have you done for them lately?

You know, when it comes to eyelashes: this isn't your mother's era of beauty and maintenance.  Our moms started with a pan of dark brown emulsion and a brush that had to be made wet, then mixed into the dried emulsion to make a slip that would then be brushed onto the lashes.

Oh no, those days are gone honey! Here's my wee two cents and recommendations for taking the best care of your lashes and getting the most out of one of your most beautiful features: your eyes!

1. Use a growth primer. I have not tried Latisse so I have no comment there. Though I have had great success with these brands and can honestly say that if you buy them, you will see results:
  • Talika Lipocils
  • Lash Food
  • NeuLash
  • Arbonne Virtual lash
I have seen in the stores that L'Oreal now makes a growth primer too and it's in the ten dollar range. So there is no excuse!

2. You need to use a gentle eye makeup remover. Place the saturated pad of cotton on your eye, hold and let the remover start to dissolve your mascara and then ever so gently begin to rub the product off.  The less scrubbing and rubbing you do on your lashes the longer they will stay.   Remember a lash has a life cycle of about 28-30 days.

3. Take note of your mascara-for those of you who can not give up your waterproof please read the above statement about using a remover.  When the residual mascara lays on the lash and covers the base of the follicle the eye lash hair can't breathe and it suffocates and dies earlier than had you removed all your mascara. I'm not saying give it up or switch to water resistant brands, just be more careful in a complete removal of product build up.

4. There are so many brands to choose from, click through today's beauty bubble to see the favorites among women nationwide. In the meantime here are my favorites:
  • L'Oreal: pretty much all of them
  • Christian Dior Dior Show
  • Arbonne
  • Avon mark Scanda Lash ...because of it's wee purse size!
  • Maybelline Lash Stiletto
  • Lorac
  • Bourjois Coup de tetre
You know, when I was learning how to do makeup, we spent weeks on mascara technique. Remember to waggle the brush from the base of the lash to the top. Using the wand with a fresh load of product on it, touch the very tip of each of your lashes, especially in the middle to give them a wee dollop of product and make them stand out more.

To make your lashes appear thicker: dust them with translucent powder first and make sure they are good and coated. Now the mascara will hold onto the powder and the lash and look thicker.

No matter which brand you use or how you apply it: I just know that you are really beautiful. And if no one has told you lately just how amazingly gorgeous you are, then let me be the first today to remind you: YOU ARE PERFECTLY GORGEOUS!

How to apply red lipstick for Valentine's day soirees

See how to rock their straight styles with these how-tos
Best Celebrity Hairstyles for Straight Hair
Are you tired of your straight hair just hangin' there? All you need are some tips and celebrity inspiration to bring your flat hair to life.

Ladies: with the upcoming celebration of love day racing toward us, you may be considering wearing red lipstick.
WAIT! There are a few things we need to talk about first: such as:
What type of lip products you are going to need?
1.Stain
2.Liner
3.Lipstick
4. Gloss

Also, will you be dining, drinking, kissing and so forth?  I ask this because you need the right products and technique to get the effect you dream of and want to have a lasting impression.  I say this to help you avoid the red feathering lipstick crawling quickly towards your nostril effect of highly pigmented lip products, such as red.

If we were together and I was doing your lips for this big night: I would recommend this routine for a lasting lip look:
1. When you brush your teeth, brush your lips so they are exfoliated and the dry spots and flakes are gently rubbed off
2. Stain your lips! My fave is Benefit Cosmetics Benetint, though Sephora's house brand, Urban Decay, Tarte, Lorac, Vincent Longo even Cover Girl make a lipstain! Use it!  Let it dry, apply another coat, and let it dry completely before moving on.
3. Line your lips: I would use a nude shade (Such as Chanel's Nude liner or N.Y.C. nude) and blend it into the stain with a dry lip brush
4. I would apply a full layer or your red lipstick. My all time favorite is the Satine lip color from the movie Moulin Rouge made by Lorac called Explore. Blot your mouth on a tissue and reapply again.  Your mouth should feel dry to the touch, and be tinted red. If you want more color, apply again and blot again.
5. Finish with your favorite gloss. Here's the fun part: choose the tone/shade/finish you want. Put clear over it, or a red tone, or pink even brown to tailor the shade of red to your outfit and level of drama you want to convey.

If all of this is too much work for your lips: use a red gloss. The H.I.P. line from L'Oreal has a good deep red with lots of color, or a sheer red from Neutrogena lip sheers works too.  Enjoy it ladies!
